This EP is a fine example of less is more: not every record has to have an outlandish texture or major grab for your attention. Some people still like stripped back house music that speaks to heel and heart in subtle and surreptitious ways. It comes from Dot Stripe on the ever reliable Act Natural Records and features four great tracks.
Each one is a rubbery, darkened bit of warm house funk that keeps it cards close to its chest, There is just a smattering of percussion, a slight hint of a whispered vocal and economical but efficient kick clap combos that roll and roll and have you locked in place for their duration. Picking a favourite is futile as all four more than do a job on suitably heady dancefloors, but Jazz might just edge it for its rolling snare hits and mysterious little melodic droplets.
