Jaunt (jônt, jänt)
n. A short trip or excursion, usually for pleasure; an outing
Plain and Simple’s roving reporter/man about town and clubbing addict Jammy brings you his eye view of the events he was shuffling at in the last week… This time he spent his jaunt at Fabric on Saturday night Jaded at Cable on Sunday morning.
Hey and welcome to Jammy’s Jaunts! A weekly round-up of my weekend’s proceedings! This weekend consisted of 2 short but sweet events: Fabric and the afterhours special: Jaded. Short but sweet! It is not every week that I get to go to many parties and cover them, so it’s nice every now and then, just to go out and do 2 parties. To start off this week’s Jaunts, I began at Fabric, one of London’s landmark clubbing destinations for any revered clubber. On Friday’s they hold mainly Drum and Bass/Dubstep nights there and on the Saturday, the more edgier sound of underground House and Techno emerges. I arrived round midnight and room1 was filling up nicely but my interest focussed mainly on room 2. The set times in room 2 were as follows: Blawan 00:00 – 02:30, Shed (Live) 02:30 – 03:30, Marcel Dettmann 03:30 – 06:30. In room 1: Hipp-E and Halo 23:00 – 03:00, Craig Richards 03:00 – 05:00, Cassy 05:00 – 08:00. Saturday night was really rainy and unpleasant and it was a great feeling to be inside Fabric and away from the rain. I have never had a bad night in Fabric and this night certainly wasn’t going to disappoint! The focus of the night was to see Blawan and Shed as I have not seen either of them play at all. Dettmann, however I have seen loads of times and it’s always a pleasure to see him play in London. As I entered room 2, Blawan has already started and he was really groovy. Room 2 was starting to fill and by the time it was 2am, the room was full. I was so impressed by Blawan and he really got the room going. He properly smashed it! The last hour or so of his set, he really went for it, and the techno really got going and on fabric’s colossal soundsystem, each sound was crystal clear and I always gauge how good the sound is, by having a conversation with someone without shouting, while the music was being pounded out. If you can be heard and your partner can hear you quite clearly, then music is loud enough.
As Dettmann came on, you kind of got the feeling what was going to happen next and it truly was pretty special. Dettmann did the business in room 2 and the crowd were really up for it! Bassline after thundering bassline was delivered and Dettmann really knew how to get the crowd going. He certainly was enjoying himself as he chugged on the ‘secret’ cigarette that he loves to get away with! In all respect to him, he probably enjoyed it and he was well worth the entry fee into Fabric to see him, Blawan and Shed in room 2. As promised, I did dip into room 1 to see Cassy play and she had the room rocking by the time I went there, shortly after she started her set at 5am. It was tricky going from full on techno to the much slower groove vibes on room 1, but I was able to readjust myself and feel the deep tech house basslines that were sent through. In all respects the music was very good and big respect to Cassy for this, but I knew where my heart and passion lies and I think we all know the answer to that. After my stint in room 1, I ventured back in room 2 until 6am and ended my adventure there. The time for the very special Jaded afterhours had nearly begun and it was nearly time to make my way down there.
