Soul Clap ‘EFUNK: The Remixes’

Soul Clap / EFUNK: The Remixes

Vinyl / Digital

Wolf + Lamb / Released June 2012

What does it sound like?

Boston’s finest unveil a few alternative versions of their recent debut long player, kicking off with DJ Kon & The Whiskey Baron’s take on Need Your Lovin‘, the famous anthem (sans sunshine) here sung by non-other than Mel Blatt. Compared with Soul Clap’s original interpretation of the track here things are decidedly more dancefloor oriented, offering up garage-esque lyrical stabs, classic piano house melodies and only brief moments of the universally familiar chorus.

Similar vibes abound on No Regular Play’s remix of TroubleTroubleTrouble, taking the whispered male vocals and broken funk beat and transforming them into a shuffling, loose four four driven electro-edged boompty boomp number. Meanwhile, the album version of Need Your Lovin’ is also present, and Slow Hands & Tanner Ross do a decent job in re-organising and renaming Islands In Space Part 2, though we’ll come back to that…

What highlights can I expect to hear?

Saturated in sunshine brass, Islands 2 as understood by Slow Hands & Tanner Ross at once nods to blissful Balearic sounds, whilst also boasting dark undertones via brooding two-note bassline, twinkling keyboards, and distorted voices.

Where can I buy it?

Juno.
