A Sagittariun ‘Born Under 22 Stars EP’

A Sagittariun / Born Under 22 Stars EP

Vinyl

Elastic Dreams / Released May 2012

What does it sound like?

The thoroughly impressive Bristol imprint remains shrouded in mystery, as does the label’s main production name, A Sagittariun. One thing we do know though is that the musical output has so far been consistent in its quality, again delivering decent dubby, space-age tech stylings on this latest EP.

From Wind Tunnel‘s reverberated atmospherics and filtered synth arpeggio creating a sense of serious urgency, to the trance-tipped broken snares and handclaps of West of Ophiuchus (which finally erupt into solid fours) there are several reasons to appreciate the work exhibited across the four tracks. Arguably the most melodic of the Elastic Dreams oeuvre to date, with Somewhere in Montpelier coming close to deep house if truth be known, sporting a breathy harmony and jacking groove. All in all then, a package well worth investigating.

What highlights can I expect to hear?

Cyrannus 247, despite not actually having any beats, is a rhythmic treat that’s part ambient soundscape, part hi-hat and percussion infused DJ tool, which makes a nice change., whereas the aforementioned Wind Tunnel will win out for the techno purists and West of Ophiuchus seals the deal for new school fans of names such as Space Dimension Controller and XXXY.

Where can I buy it?

Decent stores near you.
