Ask anyone to name the most energetic and entertaining DJs in the world, and he would surely appear on many a house-head’s list. A true originator, in terms of style and technique, it’s surprising the London superclub’s mix series hasn’t called upon his services before.
We’re happy the light finally seems to have been seen, and Derrick L. Carter, the man who quaffs jugs filled with Music For Freaks while chowing down on chunks of deep fried Classic, will be responsible for the next instalment of the now-legendary Fabric compilations. CDs aren’t the best format for such physical record players, but then Adam Beyer proved beyond doubt that you don’t need to see complex craftsmanship at work to be blown away by it.
After emerging from Chicago’s reputable early-90s house scene, Carter has won hearts and minds the world over, not least in the UK, thanks to a focus on partying, those boompty-boomp rhythms, and an enviable ability to tear turntables apart and take the roof of a club with one fell cut. His marks the 56th four-four fuelled Fabric release, while the forthcoming session from DJ Marky, and then Ramadanman’s in March, will ensure the breaks n beats sister series, FabricLive, boasts an equally sized back catalogue. Ten years on and still putting out relevant mixes, we don’t know how Farringdon’s finest keep it up, but we’re more than thrilled that they do.
