Round Table Knight’s considerable talents have endeared them to a host of labels over the years, and in Exploited Records, they really seem to have found a perfect place for their often unlikely but always harmonious sound. And so it is that they perk up again here on the Berlin label, as they look to capitalise on previous releases once more with an effort that’s bulging with quality from start to finish.
And with only two tracks on show here, the boys waste no time in getting down to work. ‘Midnight Spark’ packs serious punch into its 7-or-so minutes, with every last beat designed to force an impression on our senses. Indeed, it does exactly that too, and while its vaguely country-esque stylings might be a little too adventurous for some, there’s no doubting that this one will have patrons in a whirl on the floor.
The B-side, ‘Midnight Delight’ is a more discerning affair, with its rotund claps and its analogue-infused sound really marking it out as a jam of considerable distinction. The acid sheens aren’t overwhelming but are delicately handled, and if we didn’t know any better, we’d almost proclaim this to be the work of Larry Heard himself. So yes, as you might have figured out by now, it’s a pretty darn impressive way with which to close off the EP.
