We caught up with the man in charge, James McArdle, back in February, ahead of a rather special date in a rural village up north. Then, more recently, we ran a preview of an associated event headlined by none other than Will Saul. As such it gives us great pleasure to see this particular UK organisation continue to deliver the sonic goods.
Construct, a DJ agency and occasional party-throwing crew, have now launched a new series of melded compilations with the first entitled, in typically blunt fashion, Mix One. Rather than the same old podcasts we’re growing dangerously used to though the idea here is for some of the finest electronic music purveyors to compile a selection of tracks far removed from the dancefloor realm.
And who better to kick start such a concept than The Wire, RA, and New York Times journalist (not to mention sometime producer) Philip Sherburne, who has taken alternative and abstract cuts from names like Sendai, Kate Bush, Chris Watson, Tim Hecker, David Lynch, Ricardo Villalobos, and Steve Reich, in order to craft something equally challenging and beautiful.
