In the blog this week:
Hey folks! What’s cracking?! we’ve gone a competition nuts this week so make sure you check the comp section down thar *looks for down arrow symbol on keyboard, fails and gives up* down there!! *points down* down THERE! And see what’s up for grabs!
Things that have caught my eye this week were the car crash video of Amy Winehouse on her “come back” gig in Serbia. Get that girl to a glass of water! Quick!! In all honesty I did feel very sorry for her – got a lot of love for Amy.. And yes I know its an addicts fault and all that blah – only herself to blame.. blah.. no-one made her drink the drink or do the lines.. blah blah blah that I’ve heard this week BUT I do think her management want shooting for letting her onstage in that state to be frank! what a mess!
Call me a cynic but me and a pal have also had other thoughts regarding it… Adele has totally taken Amy’s crown while she has been away so is a very public display of awful behaviour followed by a dramatic transformation/rebirth and “turning her life around” in order to boost record sales..? Seems to have worked a treat for Kerry Katona!
Like I say call me a cynic but that’s what working in the industry does to you folks! I will watch the next 6 months with interest – one thing I will say is though – drunk or not.. Bloody hurry and finish the album dear I’ve been waiting for it for so long now.. And while you’re there pop me a free copy in the post when its done.. Ta love.. x

FRIDAY 24TH JUNE
- HARLEM NIGHTS WITH STEVE LAWLER – LIGHTS OUT ALBUM LAUNCH @ 7-9 CRUCIFIX LANE: Steve Lawler’s Harlem nights returns once again tonight to Crucifix lane. If the last party will be anything to go by then this one will be a road block! The last event saw Steve playing for six hours and the crowd refusing to leave the venue! Jokes! This time round Steve is back for another 5 hour set and joining him again will be Viva Music’s Bearweasel. Over in room 2 its deep house-tastic with Londoner James What , Detroit born Dan Berkson and Secret Sundaze promoter and resident Giles Smith. If all this wasn’t enough there is also a Mixcloud Competition to win a 2 Year Harlem Nights Residency + Prizes Worth Over £2000!
- IVAN SMAGGHE VS ANDREW WEATHERALL @ THE NEST: So here I am perusing the listings on the site for the top 5 for Friday, and I come across the following flyer “Ivan Smagghe vs Andrew Weatherall all night long at the Nest” sounds great doesn’t it?!! Frenchy Smagghe will join the legend that is Wetherall for a special back 6 hour session down at The Nest in Dalston. In other words – this does exactly what it says on the tin!
- TOI.TOI.MUSIK 1 YEAR BIRTHDAY WITH JAY HAZE, SEUIL & ERIC CLOUTIER @ TBA – EAST LONDON: Has it really been a year already?! Tonight its Toi Toi Musik’s 1st Birthday. Fresh (or not so fresh maybe.. lol) from their stint at “Be Cool” club at Sonar festival its time for a celebration! The guys have very worked hard at building up the night over the last year and so its a very much well deserved one. I myself have watched their growth and dedication to bringing London quality music with admiration and wish them a very Happy Birthday. If you like your parties with a nice, beautiful crowd full of people who are actually “in” to their music rather than just the names they see on a line-up then you will have an amazing time this evening. Tuning Sporks Jay Haze, Seuil, Eric Cloutier and Toi Toi’s head honcho Claus Voitmann provide the sounds this evening, as always its guestlist or ticket only so follow the link to find out more details.
- BREED @ DALSTON SUPERSTORE:A new night for Dalston Superstore, Rex the Dog launches BREED tonight. For the launch he’ll be presenting newcomers RUFUS&Bambi, analogue synth purists Pleasure Cruiser and finishing with a two hour DJ/Live set from himself. Even more exciting than this (if that’s poss) each edition of BREED will feature its own hand screen-printed T shirt, limited to a run of 100, and a swarm of laser eyed Robo Rexes in the upstairs bar!! Eek! Be warned though – they tell us the music policy s “strictly electronic” sounds good to me!
- REAL ROOTS REGGAE RAGGASTEP @ 3 BLIND MICE: OK so hands up who’s been to Blind Mice on Ravey St in Shoreditch? If you have I know you’ll never forget it but I’d imagine quite a few of you don’t know it even exists.. Which is the whole charm of the place so don’t err.. Ummm.. Don’t tell everyone (note to self: take own advice) they have nights here that range from live acoustic, DJ events, dub reggae to electro. Its a tiny 50s Cuban jazz basement bar and has seen everyone from Amy Winehouse to Carl from Dirty Pretty Things hanging out to soak up the unique vibes. Its like a den of iniquity from an earlier era. Tonight sees the return of weasel blog staple “Real Roots Reggae” expect selective underground beats from the volts, classics and new future sounds. Everything from classics, ska, mash-ups, dubstep, roots and raggastep / dubstep… Oh and one more thing.. Its free entry! Niceness!
Other cracking nights tonight (in no particular order): Oscillate Wildly presents Midland, Pariah, Blawan & James Fox @ The CAMP (City Arts & Music Project) || Playaz @ fabric || Bread & Butter with Tomoki Tamura @ Russian Bar || Urban Torque Recordings @ Vibe Bar || Connected with Miss Divine @ Cargo || Mi Casa Es Su Casa @ Nomad London || Monster Cuts @ The Horse & Groom || The Boogie Down Dalston Experience @ Moustache Bar || Dalston Was Cooler Than You @ The Victory || Kode 9 @ Plastic People || Scratch Perverts @ The Old Queen’s Head

Who’s idea was this and can I please congratulate them on being amazing?! If this wasn’t enough there is ALSO the ridiculously amazing Floating Points going B2B with Monsieur Scruffington an’ all! Heads up though… There are no advance tickets for this one people – only £10 ones available on the door, we all know Plastic People is an ‘ickle venue so prob best to get the tents out Harrods sale style and start queueing tonight then! As you would imagine there will be a complete spectrum of across the board sounds this eve, all whacked out on PP’s so-so-good-but-not-enough-time-left-to-big-it-up-or-we’ll-be-here-all-night-soundsystem! Wah!
- HOLIC WITH DANIEL BELL – 3 HOUR SET @ CAFE 1001: Holic is, as far as i’m concerned one of London’s best parties. Nice crowd, nice size, right venues, on the button sounds without being “niche”, underground without being “cliqey” perfect balance. Tonight – they carry on with yet another cracker of an evening with a 3 hour set from none other than Detroit god Daniel Bell (wooosh!) over at 1001. Also appearing is DJ PI-GE from Tokyo (the founder of Japan’s answer to Resident Advisor), Tomoki Tamura (obviously), Artizan Music’s Eightbitrate and more…
- SUPERNATURE LABEL PARTY @ THE NEST: Meanwhile – over at the Nest, Supernature make their Label night debut. Headlining this evening with be Berlin’s Alex Niggemann, a long time member of the Supernature family – in fact it was his debut EP on the label back in 2008 which helped him launch into the international spotlight. expect a deep, and soulful DJ set from Alex filled with his trademark energy and enthusiasm. Joining Alex on the bill is Supernature signing Pedramovich, this young producer from Sheffield has seen his production steadily exposed via tracks and remixes for respected labels such as Supernature, Alive Recordings, Hypercolour and Four:Twenty. Also appearing as a special guest on the night will be Jaded’s Raymundo Rodriguez

All this plus of course sets from Jaded ressie Raymundo Rodriguez.
- AUCHENTOSHAN PRESENTS… A NIGHT CURATED BY OFF MODERN @ THE LOCK TAVERN: Sunday isn’t JUST about raving you know – its also about roast dinners and chilling out, but yeah.. Its mostly about raving. With this in mind I think I have found you the perfect combination over at the Lock Tavern in Camden (some cracking things happening over there on a weekly basis now!) cool indie south London crew Off Modern have banded together (sorry… “curated” excuse me…) a night where the old and new collide. Dub/reggae and youtube LEGEND DJ Derek – who’s been spinning since the ’50s! – Greco Roman’s Enchante, Nasty Mcquaid, Bruk Out and of course the Off Mods collective. There’s a whiskey tasting session early in the afternoon as well, I think the whiskey may be free so worth getting in there early.. LOL
- GROOVE SANCTUARY @ MADAME JO JO’s: Original, jaw dropping and down right effing amazing are words that spring to mind about groove santuary. Music wise except a mix of house, Deep Soulful House, latino, tribal their music styles fulfill the dance floor’s every need and they’ll no doubt squeeze in some classic Disco & Boogie to complete the musical picture. The coolest thing about this night is that the room is FULL of dancers (from street to professional) who come here to show off new moves and exchange others, its also been a meeting place for many House Dancers worldwide. These guys are amazing to watch but saying this its not just for watching – the incredibly friendly atmosphere means anyone can join in – dancer or not! This night is quite possibly 1 of London’s best kept secrets so shhhh dont tell everyone! ( oh shit I just did)
