Bloc adds more names to Minehead mashup

That’s right, we’re counting the days down until we get to jump on a coach and head off to fantasy land for a weekend of death-defying debauchery in Butlins. So each time the folks behind it announce new acts to the mammoth festival, we’re gonna report it.

Preparations for Bloc 2011 are still in the early-ish stages, making this string of announcements all the more impressive. We’d be joining the other techno campers on site whatever the weather, but seen as the sun will be shining in the shape of Aphex Twin and Four Tet on the main stage, then consider it a case of tickets bought.

On top of that, crafty and mysterious broken beater Venetian Snares will be rolling out strings with, er, snares to chin stroking satisfaction. And fans of all things Crosstown and Rebel-like will no doubt be over the moon to hear man of the moment Seth Troxler will also be dropping in, alongside friends Lee Curtiss and Shaun Reeves, to headline a room hosted by the mighty Mulletover.

Our buddies over at Resident Advisor will also be taking charge of some speakers, offering Will Saul, Floating Points and Soul Clap. Meanwhile, Mary Anne Hobbs will be keeping kids, and big kids happy, by playing records with L-Vis 1990, Roska and Al Tourettes.

There’s obviously more to say than is really worth putting into reported speech, so click here to see more details on the festival’s 5th Birthday, direct from the horse’s mouth. We’re very much looking forward to catching France’s hugely hyped production outfit dOP delivering one of their acclaimed live sets, and with names like Shackleton, Joy Orbison and Untold also already listed, we can see such delights will be coming thick and fast come March 11th.

As always, we love watching things. So here’s a video from last year, which is poor in terms of quality, but great in terms of atmosphere. From our memory, this was around 6am on Sunday morning, so to the person responsible we say fair play for managing to hold an object, let alone film anything. As you can see then, this one is not for the faint hearted, meaning fans of sleep and sanity should keep repeating “it’s only a three day festival, it’s only a three day festival, it’s only a three day festival…
