It’s that special time of year again- the clocks have gone forward, the days are now longer and the air (if today is much to judge things on) notably warmer. It’s also the season when die-hard techno fans make the journey to Mannheim in Germany for Time Warp, arguably the biggest celebration of fast four four noise on the planet.

It all kicks off on Friday, 4th April, and this year is set to be bigger than ever as the event marks 20 years of notorious debauchery. There’s very little time to go until the first beats begin to kick out, and in the hope of building our already sizeable expectations organisers have just unveiled their list of reasons we should all buy a ticket, if we haven’t already. So, take a look below and see whether they can convince you to jump aboard a last minute flight (closest international airport-proper serving most UK departure cities is Frankfurt)…

Time Warp

1. THE ULTIMATE TECHNO PILGRIMAGE

They say: Over the last 20 years Time Warp has become an institution for electronic music lovers, with loyal fans from all over the globe making an annual pilgrimage to witness marathon sessions from techno’s finest. This year, expect genre-defining performances from acts including Adam Beyer, Ben Klock, Carl Cox, Chris Liebing, Dubfire, Jamie Jones, John Digweed, Josh Wink, Loco Dice, Marco Carola, Marcel Dettmann, Monika Kruse, Ricardo Villalobos, Seth Troxler and Sven Väth.

We say: Yep, that’s a pretty serious line up.

2. ENTER. THE DJ BOOTH WITH RICHIE HAWTIN

They say: Techno pioneer Richie Hawtin’s sets are always one of the main highlights at Time Warp and this year the festival are offering one lucky person the chance to experience Time Warp in the DJ booth with the man himself. All you need to do is vote for your favourite Richie Hawtin moment at Time Warp.

We say: Nice idea, but the realities of standing in the booth, sweating and staring intently at a world famous DJ doing his thing might be a little awkward. Nevertheless, it’s an opportunity money can’t buy.

3. BE PART OF THE TIME WARP 20 YEARS DOCUMENTARY

They say: Time Warp are offering fans the opportunity become part of the festival’s history by featuring in a new Time Warp 20 Years documentary. For a chance to appear in the documentary just film a short video which shows your love for techno and illustrates why you are the ultimate Time Warp fan. Send your video to wir@cosmopop.biz and the best videos will be invited to appear in the documentary.

We say: If that movie doesn’t involve tall, Northern European techno nutcases shouting really loud about their favourite DJs then something has gone wrong. Here’s your chance to make it happen.

4. LAURENT GARNIER

They say: Time Warp veteran Laurent Garnier is an integral part of Time Warp, having performed at the festival every year since the very beginning. This year he will celebrate his own 20th anniversary at the event and we can’t wait to see what he has in store.

We say: It’s difficult to think of a time the Big LG hasn’t stepped up to the mark. He’s unlikely to start now.

5. MIND-BLOWING LIGHTING AND VISUAL TECHNOLOGY DISPLAYS

They say: The Time Warp experience is brought to life by a huge range of AV technology and some seriously talented video and lighting artists. Designed to fully enhance the clubbing experience it has to be seen to be believed.

We say: In the past the production has been nothing short of amazing.

6. THE DJ’S PLACE TO PARTY

They say: It’s no surprise Time Warp ranks as many techno artists favourite festival. Every year the festival reunites old friends and welcomes new friends to the Time Warp family, creating the ultimate party atmosphere for DJs to unleash their sonic techno beats.

We say: Forget moody bastards who refuse to smile and look more like they’re overseeing a complex civil works project rather than playing to a several-thousand-strong crowd of revellers.

7. TIME WARP GOES GLOBAL

They say: Fear not it you can’t make it to Mannheim this year as Time Warp will take the 20th anniversary celebrations global, starting in May with the first ever edition of Time Warp in Argentina.

We say: Please can someone fix it for us to go to Argentina on a staff trip?
