Jaunt (jônt, jänt)
n. A short trip or excursion, usually for pleasure; an outing
Plain and Simple’s roving reporter/man about town and clubbing addict Jammy brings you his eye view of the events he was shuffling at in the last week… This time he spent his jaunt at 4 Years of Electric Deluxe at Electric Brixton followed by his weekly instalment of Jaded’s after-hours madness…
Hey and welcome to Jammy’s Jaunts! A weekly round-up of my weekend’s proceedings. This weekend started off at Electric Brixton (previously ‘Fridge’) for the very special Electric Deluxe showcase. I have been waiting for this event for months, ever since the lineup came out and this didn’t disappoint! I came especially to see head honcho of Electric Deluxe: Speedy J and a whole array of international talent including Marcel Fengler, Marcel Dettmann, Sandwell District and my good friend Colin John who warmed up the night’s proceedings! Set times were Colin John 10-11, Marcel Fengler 11-1, Marcel Dettmann 1- 3, Speedy J 3 – 4.30 and Sandwell District (live) 4.30 – 6. Big support came from my good friends over at EarToGround which hosted the second room. While the main action came from the main room, there was time to catch Chris Stanford, Dax J and Gareth Wild in action.
But sometimes you just can’t win them all! The stage was perfectly set for the man himself and what the majority of the crowd were waiting for: Speedy J! Straightaway after he started, the volume went up straightaway from being very low for Dettmann to incredibly high for Speedy J. A certain, sneaky movement perhaps?! Anyway, the crowd were taken for a ride that no one ever expected, from the word go. Seeing him for the first time, I was blown away! A real spectacle from a true legend! Will never forget that one in a hurry!
Jaded didn’t disappoint once again and this truly was a techno performance that got the real fans going! From the word go, Gabby Lopez warmed up the balcony crowd for resident Raymundo Rodriguez to play all morning long keeping his loyal and supportive fans enthralled in that room! Meanwhile in the main room EarToGround heads Chris Stanford and Gareth Wild got the ecstatic crowd going for the secret Electric Deluxe secret guests which were… Sandwell District! I can really describe how good Regis and Function were, but that Jaded was the best one ever that I have been to, and I’ve been to many! They took the levels of techno to the highest level I have heard in a very long time! A definite one for the Jaded history books! What a weekend!
