Breakbeat maestro and head of Rocstar Agency Cut La roc has been on a Soundcloud frenzy this week, and if you head on over to his page you can get your mitts on a plethora of free music. No less than 13 free downloads and re edits have been added in the last week, meaning that any breaks heads should head over there pronto.
As a leading figure in the breaks scene, Lee La Roc is one of the original Brighton Big Beat pioneers, having had releases on Skint records and making it into the Guinness book of records for DJing with the highest number of decks at once (9!). He has gone on to form his own label and agency, Rocstar, cementing him as one of the pillars of the breaks sound. Representing some of the biggest artists in the UK, Rocstar is home to a broad range of artists from long standing hero Jon Carter to the breaks newbreed like Ben and Lex and Afghan Headspin.
His eclectic influences take in everything old skool hip hop and jungle, through to deep house and electronica, and this can be heard on both his albums and the rather tasty pile of downloads available.
Highlights on offer include The Spell, a dirty breaks track which drops into a driving electro glitch that fans of marine parade will be all over. ‘Dyson’ is a more stripped back offering that would make a perfect set starter with a sample from 2001 a Space Odyssey.
There’s also a reworking of ‘California’ which is perfect for a summer mash up mix, but of the highlight has to be the re-edit of underworlds monster ‘Two months off’. Top work Mr La Roc, thanks for the freebies!
