CHRIS GRESSWELL – FOREVER (OD MUSIC GROUP) (06/09)

The OD Music Group has proved a fine addition to the electronic music landscape, a fact that’s laid bare for all to see recently on their V/A – ‘One Year’ compilation that just dropped recently. They continue to showcase their wide-ranging sound this time around too, as they introduce a newcomer of some talent to the scene in the shape of Chris Gresswell.

Gresswell is a producer who evidently knows his way around the production desk too, just as this – his debut EP no less – would appear to suggest. The Knowledge is Power EP, then, comes primed with multiple house/bass gems, many of which are sure to take your fancy. Of these, lead track ”Forever” makes for an intriguing start. Strictly speaking, it’s the most ‘house’ inclined on everything on offer, with its steady 4/4 beat, its harmonious melodious and its firm bass kicks immediately signaling the main man’s talents. If ever there was a track that’d go down a storm at DC10’s Circoloco, this one is surely it.

A raft of similarly inclined tracks follow thereafter. ”Clear Vision” offers the first glimpse into Gresswell’s somewhat unconventional sound palette, while the preceding track ”I Luv You” only compounds the latter statement. Ariel Camusso’s version of ”Forever” is draped in the sort of sultry goodness that’s duly endeared him to Rinse’s airwaves, while Mike Sure & Paul Lawrence draw the curtain on matters with their vaguely ominous remix. It won’t be to everyone’s tastes for sure, but there’s still enough going on here to satisfy the majority of bass sounds in particular.
