Asylum THE END

eventflyer_11033333_face_jpg_1377839718After a decade of unbelievable music and memories, Asylum – one of Leeds’ most  influential club nights – sadly draws to an end. Celebrating this epic achievement they’ll be cranking hard for one last hurrah. Saturday October 26th will see the likes of Kerri Chandler, Crazy P, Maurice Fulton, Futureboogie, PBR Streetgang, Negghead and Maxi Soundsystem. They’ll be joined by a selection of past residents, gracing the stage at the fantastic Mint Warehouse. Get your farewellpartypants ready, this’ll be one helluva’ send off.

Over the course of a decade, Tom Thorpe – the driving force behind Asylum – booked the likes of Luciano, Danny Krivit, Loco Dice, Metro Area, Jamie Jones, Greg Wilson, Damian Lazarus, Todd Terje, Dyed Soundorom and Unabombers – often bringing international heavyweights to the city for their London debut.

In a heartfelt statement Tom said –

It’s time to close the doors forever on the Asylum story, which seems very fitting on it’s 10th Anniversary. I can safely say the last ten years have been the best of my life. From opening the doors at the Mint Club in 2003 with Winston Hazel & Desi Rocca our main aim was to bring something fresh and underground to the city. Our motto is ‘if it’s good music… play it” regardless of what genre it comes from.

And…

Luckily for us the people of Leeds shared the same passion and enthusiasm for the music, but of course they would… it’s Leeds! From our humble beginnings we soon had a packed club swinging from the camo’ netting week in week out, still to this day I have never seen a club go as crazy as when Jazzy Jeff took to the decks scratching up his selection of wonky beats and disco treats! And then came the clown we know so well as Circo Loco, we were one of the first to bring the brand to the UK, it caused total chaos for Val and the Mint club team as people would fly in from all over Europe to see us showcase the red hot beats of Monday’s craziest party from the white Isle. The Mint club is where our heart lies so, it only seems fitting to go out with a bang at one of their venues. There are so many amazing acts that I wanted to include for the closing but I’m sure you will agree I’ve selected the ‘top gun’ of Asylum’s previous guests for the final curtain call!

And…

Lastly I want to thank everyone who has been involved and indeed supported Asylum over the years. As everyone knows it’s the people that make the party and you’ve been the most amazing, outrageous, party misfits there are!  I hold many fond memories and experiences albeit hazy ones, but the most important thing for me is the friends I’ve made along the way, you guys will make me smile for a life time. I hope you’ve enjoyed the journey as much as I have and will join in for one last soiree, in true Asylum style expect the unexpected… It’s your last chance to dance!

If we were the Oscars, and not Plain&simple…there would’ve been Jaws music, and I’m pretty sure he would’ve been dragged off the stage weeping – and who could blame him?

The line-up speaks for itself. Freaking awesome! Whats more, to close in fine debaucherous style, there’ll be an after-party at The Garage. Asylum lovers can say a final farewell with the most famous ex-resident of them all; the wonderful, the magical and the mythical Simon Baker.  Get your hankies ready, sconna’ be emotional.
