Quality Music and Club Nights in the West End? It’s Bitter Sweet!

imageI am pretty sure there are not many people who visit this site that are frequently seen partying in the West End and Soho. Many of the people being all hipster in East London, or hitting the underground across other areas of London work in central London and many of us still head to the centre to shop, so why run away from the area on Friday or Saturday night. Partly because there is so much generic rubbish, cattle market style clubs, horrible door staff and minimal amounts of quality parties and DJs on show.

There are the occasional exceptions of course and in venue Bitter Sweet in Soho, there new programme of nights is a very exciting prospect.

Bitter Sweet on Kingly Court has taken on a new outlook. Formally the Kingly Club and prior to this the infamous Pinstripe Club, it is a basement just off Carnaby Street with an intimate 115 capacity. They have created a new programme featuring a brand new in house Friday night and brought in a number of monthly Saturday promoters to bring much of the quality that is normally reserved for outside of the west end. It is still a quality cocktail joint and has the decor that is certainly not aimed at those who love a warehouse but as venue programmer Barry Eaton points out, “the venue is packed with quality, from the staff to the drinks to the intimate nature and booths, this should never be apologised for and should be available to all to enjoy, we are just looking to provide a soundtrack and run of parties to match”.

Launching officially on Friday 13th September is High Jinx. This weekly party has brought together a excellent team of residents that over the month will bring some edge musically to proceedings. London based Australian DJ Foxx (Carly Horden, pictured) is a DJ who regularly plays on London’s underground house and techno circuit has been brought in to assist with the new night, assisting with bookings and musical ethos. “This venue can go from cool cocktails joint to full on party in a heartbeat and musically we need to be creative and on our toes. There also needs to be some real individuality with the DJs playing. Although Friday has the same party ethos each week, it also needs to offer something fresh and exciting musically each time you go. This is not west end style DJ by numbers!” Carly enthuses. Foxx will be DJing each month alongside a crack squad of residents including Sophie Lloyd and Chloe Fontaine. There will also be monthly guests dropping in so do keep your ear to the ground as we are assured they will be of some class.

This week also sees the beginning of there new Saturday events. Welcoming promoters to the fray, they have a mixture of in house, one off and monthly nights with an all encompassing mindset musically. “It’s all about the quality at the end of the day, regardless of the genre” Barry explains.

This Saturday 14 September the excellent music site www.putmeonit.com host a brand new event created for the venue. Used to running their nights in venues such as The Old Queens Head, they have made the step into Soho with Wonderland. As a result, Bitter Sweet not only gets this great brand sitting alongside the venue, but on the night DJs Chris P Cuts, Kid Keroro (an alias for another Kid who frequents PMOI parties) and Marshmello grace the decks and will provide some welcome guest DJs of some class to not only the venue but also the area in general.

With future Saturdays welcoming a monthly from The Doctors Orders, special guest DJ led in house parties and drop in promoters including the very much in demand London Disco Society, we have no doubt whether you make Bitter Sweet a destination for a particular night or make it your “go to” venue for the west end to avoid the generic crap (and sample one of the best cocktail menus in London we might add), we don’t doubt that you will be visiting the venue soon and a much needed and exciting prospect for Soho and the West End in general.
