LCD Soundsystem set to hit big screens

It’s safe to say when James Murphy decided to call it a day on his internationally acclaimed live act last year a few hearts sank. Not least as they only played a handful of dates across the world to say goodbye.

Good news if you missed out then, as the trend for one off music spectacles in cinemas continues next month. Shut Up And Play The Hits is the aptly titled movie in question, which showcases the final days of LCD Soundsystem, arguably the finest band of the 21st Century’s first decade, along with their grand finale- a four hour set at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

We have directors Will Lovelace and Dylan Southern to thank for putting the film together- they earned a Grammy for Blur documentary No Distance Left To Run, so expect some very good production to be evident throughout. Click on this link for a list of every cinema in Britain set to show the reel, which opens on September 4th 2012.

On that day, and that day only, there will also be a live satellite link up to all screens with the former frontman, making for a memorable occasion to say the least. If you miss that don’t worry, it will continue to play, though without the special guest appearance. You can also pre-order the DVD by clicking here (it should be well worth it, with outtakes, almost four hours of live footage, and a 90 minute documentary amongst the highlights therein). Trailer below, along with three of our favourites from this sorely missed outfit’s impressive oeuvre. Those were the days, as they say.
