Sonar festival gets underway – Catch the coverage.

Sonar, the acclaimed music and multimedia arts festival opened today in Barcelona. Sonar is renowned for presenting some of the most ground breaking music and visual artists and projects in the world, and ranks as the ultimate thinkers music festival. With acts such as Aphex Twin, Four Tet, Cut Copy, Underworld, M.I.A and James Murphy all on the line up there is plenty to be excited about. But that barely scratches the surface of what is a broad presentation of the leaders of electronic music, many of them on the obscure side of the mainstream, making sonar the perfect destination for musical discovery.

If you haven’t made it to Spain but still want to catch some of the action then fear not, as Red Bull Music Academy and Sonar join forces on the SonarDôme stage with online video streaming website Boiler Room to bring you 10 shows through live online videocast.

From Thursday 16th to Saturday 18th June, Boiler Room will be broadcasting live and direct from SonarDôme for several hours every day, including the shows by artists like Poirier, Cosmin TRG, Illum Sphere and The Brandt Brauer Frick Ensemble, among others, as well as backstage images, interviews and other content.

What’s more, you can also catch coverage of the weekend via BBC radio 1, who are presenting a special showcase on Friday night on the SonarLab stage at Sonar by Night. They will be covering the festival over all three days with various link-ups. On Friday 17th, a few hours before taking the stage, Annie Mac presents a two-hour special (8pm-10pm) from Barcelona, with added help from Benji B, Redlight, Katy B and Toddla T, who are all performing on the evening.

There will also be several specials dedicated to the festival on the days afterwards, on the shows of Benji B (June 22nd) and Annie Mac (June 24th) plus the Essential Mix Sonar Special on June 25th.
