Preview: Soundcrash presents Videocrash: Solid Steel Summer Special.

Saturday 18th June Soundcrash presents Videocrash:  Solid Steel Summer Special – Hexstatic ‘Trailer Trax’ (live AV show) + DJ Food & DK (live AV show) + DJ Cheeba (live AV show) + Quantic

Ninja Tunes‘ Solid Steel series has been delivering the best in cutting edge electronic music for some 20 odd years now. The series of radio shows, mix compilations, podcasts and live events have laid the way for some seriously cool and experimental electronic musicians and DJ’s to show us what they are made of, from early pioneers Coldcut and DJ f’ood, to the infamous ‘keep it solid steel’ mix series from Mr Scruff. Now they are set to take over London’s XOYO again for another Video Crash, an audio visual treat showcasing what happens when some the best AV artists come together.

The main room will see live AV sets from audiovisual pioneers Hexstatic, long standing Solid Steel contributor DJFood & DK and Bristol’s Dj Cheeba. And there will be added tropical heat courtesy of Will Holland, aka Quantic, playing his trademark driven funk in Room 2.

Long-term leaders of the audio-visual arm of Ninja Tune, as well as Videocrash residents, Hexstatic are not only responsible for the second Solid Steel mix-album ‘Listen & Learn’ in 2003 but regular suppliers of the pod-cast mixes and mind-boggling AV sets at the Videocrash parties. This time they are going to present the wicked-cool, completely new live ‘Trailer Trax’ set based on ‘Grindhouse’ style cinema trailers mashed with new-school dubs and beats.

DJ Food & DK were on the original Solid Steel radio shows; they released the first mix-album; they still manage, record and perform the monthly podcasts and have rinsed the Videocrash stage twice before. Strictly Kev and Darren Knott are a real force to be reckoned with once they get behind a mixer, some decks and any other gadgetry they can get their mitts on, so with this being an AV set can all expect something extraordinary.

And finally, representing the new-school of Solid Steel, is DJ Cheeba. A frequent recent addition to the Steel’s mix-tape roster as well as a long-term Videocrash (/Soundcrash) resident this Bristolian constantly mesmerises audiences old and new with both his awesome scratching dexterity and cutting edge Serato skills; he mashes sounds and images together so naturally that you can easily forget it’s a live performance.

This is a must for anyone who wants to see video manipulation coupled cutting edge music done by the masters.
