日本 再起 ▶ Stand UP for Japan with 2many DJ’s, Erol Alkan and Andrew Weatherall.

On Sunday May 1, a stellar line-up of disc jockeys and bands are mucking-in raise money for victims of the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

Headlining the main room are everyone’s favourites, 2many DJ’s (at ten o’clock). Erol Alkan(Keeps Kids Dancing‚) kicks off proceedings at 5.45 pm. The midnight finale will be courtesy of the mighty Andrew Weatherall, and there’s some wonderful in-between spinners in DJs Caribou and Skull Juice.

If that isn’t enough to be getting on with, The Horrors Rhys Webb, Tom Furse and Joseph Spurgeon are playing live in their electronic incarnation, Spider and the Flies and legendary Can vocalist Damo SUZUKI gets up and “takes you on a journey” backed by band members of spooky-disco outfit Zongamin, plus the extraordinarily talented Kenichi Iwasa of Chrome Hoff, Xaviers and Neo Soft.

Awaiting you upstairs will be live acoustic sets by psychedelic troubadour-du-jour CONNAN MOCKASIN, plus the marvelous A-LINE. Getting you all unnecessary in a Rock’n’Roll/Rythm’n’Blues/Psych/Soul/Expect-bloody-anything tone-of-voice are headline DJs The Horrors, with earlier sets coming from Black Cat, Barry 7, Big Vern Burns, Alakazam! and Giles Deacon.

Finally, an early-evening charity auction is planned featuring work by artists, illustrators, designers and graphic artists, including Giles, Rob Ryan, James Jarvis Fergadelic, Will Sweennt and Henry Krokastsis (with more TBC).

All profits go directly to the Japanese charity CIVIC FORCE. 400,000 people lost their homes and are still living in shelters, with little hope of returning to towns and villages obliterated by the tsunami.

On top of the massive loss of life and devastation, the ongoing Fukushima nuclear crisis means anxiety about what the future holds for the people of Japan.

Stand up for Japan aim to provide a gesture of solidarity and a small yet significant amount of practical help in terms of hard cash. Every little bit helps.
