Soul Odyssey is a brand new party bringing to you the best in classic artists and bands from the Soul era of the 70’s and 80’s.
On Easter Saturday Soul Odyssey will be bringing to London 3 legendary live acts – Sister Sledge (with a full band from Philadelphia) singing gems including ‘We Are Family’ and ‘Lost In Music’;
Rose Royce lead singer Gwen Dickey who will be performing some of her hits including ‘Car Wash’ and ‘Wishing On A Star’; and UK legend, Jaki Graham who will be performing some of her 80’s dance hits including ‘Could It Be I’m Falling In Love’ and ‘Round and Round’. As if three legendary acts isn’t enough to break you out in a sweat, Soul Odyssey finish the evening with guest DJ Greg Edwards & friends to bring back that soulful vibe into the 21st century.
SISTER SLEDGE are from Philadelphia and have been performing together since the early 1970s as teenagers. It wasn’t until 1979, when Chic leaders Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards produced the album “We Are Family” that Sister Sledge really exploded commercially. “He’s The Greatest Dancer” and “We Are Family” both became hits in the USA and internationally. Sister Sledge went on to record double platinum success on their next several albums. Most well known for their trademark disco sound, a lot of their later work presented a marked contrast, including their massive 1985 UK number 1 “Frankie”. Lead singer Kathy Sledge brings the group back to the UK, with full band, for the first time since 2009. Expect a performance of cherry picked favourites from ‘We Are Family’, ‘He’s The Greatest Dancer’, ‘Lost In Music’ to ‘Freak Out ‘Chic’’ and many more!
GWEN DICKEY was the voice behind LA band Rose Royce – a soul, funk and disco band formed by Motown writer producer Norman Whitfield. The Movie and soundtrack for “Car Wash” which was released in 1976 with many Rose Royce songs featuring Gwen were great successes, bringing the group national and international fame. In 1998 Gwen Dickey teamed up with international rap artist Jay-Z for a brand new version of the Rose Royce hit “Wishing On A Star” which gave Gwen her first solo UK top 10 hit. Gwen Dickey will be performing classic tracks such as ‘Wishing On A Star’, ‘Is It Love You’re After’, ‘Ain’t Nobody’, ‘Car Wash’ and ‘Love Don’t Live Here Anymore’.
JAKI GRAHAM is a unique vocalist and one of the most appealing Soul entertainers to emerge from the UK, her track “Could it be im falling in love?” reached No.5 in the british charts in March ’85. Jaki achieved a Guinness World record as the first black British female solo artist to have 6 consecutive Top 10/20 hits, unheard of by a black British female at that time. Particularly successful in Japan in the 90’s, releasing 5 albums, her first album “Real Life” sold more than 800,000 copies in less than four weeks. “Real Life” gave Jaki international hit singles, elevating her status further. Later she released an album with Motown records entitled “Kiss the Sky”. Jaki Graham will be performing some of her classic singles including ‘Could It Be I’m Falling In Love’, ‘Set Me Free’, ‘Round And Round’ and ‘I Want To Thank You’ among others.
