Dour festival announces first names

One of Europe’s biggest weekenders has put the wheels in motion for its 2011 event. The initial acts have been confirmed, though very little has actually been given away.

Old Cypress Hill affiliates (by way of the sometime Soul Assassins posse) House of Pain are amongst the first wave of artists heading for Dour this year, which makes for interesting reading alongside The Amplifetes, the acidic power-poppers that shot to fame with their debut album, released just last year. It’s probably more exciting, though, to see that cult psychedelic hip-hop icon The Gaslamp Killer will also be in attendance. As will the quite extraordinary sounding Shantel & Bucovina Club Orchestra, a group that marry North African and Brazilian beats with Romanian music, apparently.

If none of that grabs you at the moment, don’t worry. A trip to Belgium could still be on the cards, as by the time July 14th arrives, some 200 performances will be lined up to play through until the 17th. Past luminaries have included Swayzak, Dave Clarke, DJ Marky, Carl Craig, DJ Hype, Chris Cunningham, Dub Pistols, Agoria and DJ Shadow, so you can guarantee a similarly distinguished guest list this time around. Tickets are on sale now, here, and rarely last very long.
