BPM exhibition announce this year’s panel guests.

Earlier this month we brought you a preview of the huge range of exhibitors that will be showing at this year’s BPM exhibition, Europe’s Largest DJing and Electronic Music Making Event, and now the line-up for the industry panel sessions has been announced . The panel sessions were introduced last year as an added attraction to the hordes of DJ and production equipment and demo’s on show.

The Panel sessions are offering unique opportunities for visitors to learn from industry professionals with fascinating experience in their particular fields. In 2010 Panels will return to BPM in a bigger and better form, this year taking place on the Main Stage in the BPM Arena. There will be a total of three sessions, two on Sunday 3rd and one on Monday 4th October. Each Panel will cover a different specific topic, but all three will provide an unmissable opportunity to learn from a variety of music industry professionals.

This year’s sessions feature:

The Panel

Jon Hitchen
Jon joined the Music Factory Entertainment Group aged 18. His first role was working in the mastering department before moving into production where he worked hard to develop his skills alongside names like Andy Pickles, Lee Haslam & Martin ‘Megabass’ Smith. He has gone on to become a senior producer creating mixes for Mastermix, Pure Energy, Jive Bunny and Ministry Of Sound. He is a perfectionist and this reflects heavily in his work which is revered by DJs worldwide.

Steve Andrews
Steve is a newcomer to the line-up but has quickly established himself as our remix specialist. He is a much-respected DJ & Producer in the dance community and has brought his vast knowledge and production skills to Mastermix. He is a very welcome addition to the team and is constantly pushing the boundaries to develop new & innovative mixes.

Danny Holland
Danny is the youngest member of the team but his devotion to his work has placed him firmly at the top of his game. He spent a few weeks at Music Factory on work experience and showed such enthusiasm and talent that he was offered a full-time job. He has gone on to be an integral part of the production team as well as making a name for himself in the Bassline music scene as part of ‘SBS Goes Dutch’. His mash ups have been compared to the work of producers many years older than he is … a true testament to this young mans talent!

Shaun ‘Banger’ Scott
Shaun is the ‘Godfather of Bassline’ and one of the original DJs who turned the Niche nightclub in Sheffield into a worldwide brand. His work has been heard in clubs and on radio stations across the globe. His first venture into the world of music production, ‘California Dreamin’, was a smash and is still one of the most sought after songs in its genre today. He didn’t stop there and in 2000 set about producing another huge hit, ‘Gordon’s Groove’, which became a global club anthem and the commencement of his extensive discography today. As well as performing at some of the biggest venues in the world, he is the Label Manager for Mastermix Bassline.

DIY – Produce > Promote > Playout
3:30pm Sunday 3rd October

“Who needs a record label … I can do it myself …”

Since the birth of computers & internet the music business, like most industries, has changed beyond all recognition. The way we do business, create music, promote and play-out has literally been turned on its head.

One of the biggest questions at the moment is ‘Can you now do it all on your own? Can the route to fame and fortune be achieved without the backing of a record company?’

The panellists hail from various sectors of the industry but have one thing in common, they can either help you self-promote or have already ‘got the t-shirt’. BPM’s Mark Walsh will be moderating the session, probing each of the panellists for ideas, advice and insight for budding music industry DIYers!

If you have the talent, drive and ambition to make it big, attending this panel is a must.

In 2001, Guenter founded his own distribution company “REBEAT” to release both his own music and the albums of other creative musicians. In 2003, the idea for “REBEAT Digital” was born: an easy to use software system, allowing musicians to upload and sell their songs digitally worldwide. Today REBEAT Digital GmbH supplies more than 300 download shops and works with 1,800 labels and artists.

Rebecca Saforia
The BPM team first met Rebecca in Ibiza at the IMS event earlier this year. Rebecca was out in the Balearic sunshine trying to get her tracks and her name out and about in to the music business. Through determination, hard work and clever networking, Rebecca has now started to get the recognition she deserves. Purely through self-promotion Rebecca has DJed at the Ministry of Sound and Cream and has her tracks on sale at Beatport and iTunes stores.

Making a Career in Music – 2:30pm Monday 4th October

“Finding a job doing what you love”

The reason most people visit BPM is because they want to be a part of one of the most exciting industries in the world. As we all know, not everyone will make it as a Superstar DJ or acclaimed producer but many will still want to be a part of this exciting business.

There are a multitude of job roles in the industry ranging from Product Development to A & R and Management to Production, the question is: what do they all mean? What do these people do? And what skills do these jobs require?

In this session BPM’s Mark Walsh will explore jobs in the music business by moderating a panel discussion with an experienced yet eclectic line up of industry professionals who will share their vast knowledge and know-how.

This is a ‘must attend’ presentation for those who are serious about a career in the DJ game, music business or night industry.

Working regularly at large arena shows he began to build a large portfolio of contacts, which would consequently help him to develop his company Artist Needs Ltd.

Mick Wilson
Mick Wilson is no stranger to hi-tech studio and DJ gadgetry due to his role as Tech Editor of the world famous DJ Mag. Mick not only can speak of his time in cutting edge music journalism but on a whole smorgasbord of roles within the record industry. There are many careers within the DJing, remixing and production sector and with his vast experience Mick Wilson is well versed to speak on many of them.

Richard Lee has been in the music industry for over 20 years. His work includes DJ, Stadium Announcer, Compere, Music Producer & Radio Presenter. He joined the Music Factory Entertainment Group in 1999 and quickly found himself heading up the production department before finally settling in his current role as Label Manager for Mastermix.

He founded and operated Rapid Response Recordings. He is credited with ‘discovering’ Tiësto. In 2008 he was contacted by Paul Oakenfold and asked to design a touring DJ booth for Madonna’s “Sweet & Sticky” global arena tour. LiteConsole was born!

The panel sessions look set to be a must visit for anyone looking to understand more about the business side of the dance music industry, add this to appearances from the likes of DJ Yoda, Eddie Halliwell, Cut Master Swift and Doorly, and you have a must-attend event for all DJ’s, both aspiring and established alike.
