As the sample goes: “Once out of Detroit, it will be a powerful thing“. That certainly applies to the festival that Carl Craig and co gave birth to back in 2000.
Starting life in Detroit as a showcase for the sounds of the city, and the sounds that the city influenced, Movement spawned a second head like some techno monster circa 2006, when Luigi Mazzoleni and Maurizio Vitale launched a sister event in Turin. October 30th and 31st sees the fifth Italian installment, with the likes of Dixon, 2manydj’s, Ellen Allien, Kyle Hall, Derrick May and Sven Vath taking over a town that, as the historic home of Fiat, shares an automotive history with America’s Motor City.
In order to celebrate half a decade of strings, snares, synths and conferences the team behind the two day dance binge are unleashing an enormous anniversary box set. Two discs are littered with defining tunes from production stalwarts such as Luciano, Loco Dice, Rhythm Is Rhythm, Moodymann, Francoise K and Dennis Ferrer. There’s also a multimedia disc, with festival information (whatever that means), additional tracks and a stonking two-and-a-half-hour mix courtesy of I-Robots.
We’ve kindly provided you with the track listing for the mega-CD below, which will be released on Movement Sound Recordings to coincide with this year’s Turin event.
