Sat Aug 03 – The day after the 22nd anniversary of the untimely passing of the unequalled genius that is / was the original Black President aka FELA KUTI (Aug 02 1997), The South London Soul Train throws it’s annual righteous celebratory Level 1 tribute to the ultimate Afro Beat & Funk Pioneer + “Political through dance activist” at The CLF Art Cafe.
From midnight – It’s FELA TIME! Your host JAZZHEADCHRONIC welcoming Parisienne Disco edit head ATN + spirit of FELA Afrobeat channelers BUKKY LEO & BLACK EGYPT explosively [LIVE].
LEVEL 1 – BUKKY LEO & BLACK EGYPT (LIVE) Band on stage at 12am.
Temple Funk Collective brought the house down at Bestival 2014 – a New Orleans-style 8-piece brass band riot, taking their lead from the Louisiana legends and adding gypsy, jungle and hip hop.
While growing up in Lagos, Nigeria, Bukky Leo was spotted practicing his first saxophone by the great original afrobeat drummer Tony Allen. He was immediately ushered into Tony’s newly formed band “Mighty Iroko’s”. Bukky went on to play with the great Fela Kuti, where the seeds of Afrobeat were being sewn.
Then on LEVEL 2 – Let’s make it FUNKY! WELL FUNKY!! Rare Funk 45 super sharp shooters DJ SNOWBOY & PERRY LOUIS take aim and fire up the Dance Floor for another red hot, positive all night session in funk, soul, rare groove + More.
ROOM 3 – S’all about The Northern Soul of it all. Northern Soul Room host The Legendary ROB MESSER + WARREN BOOGALOO dropping more seismic northern soul joints of epic proportions, hard and heavy on yehs. All on 45!
The SLST 3 Floor / 4 Room line up completed in The RYE WAX / BASEMENT. WAH WAH 45 DJs serving up piping hot joints from their menu of wholesome world wide wonder funk to groove, boogie to disco & beyond.
Runs 10pm-5am / £5-13 Adv at RA or £15 OTD.
