COTCH returns after a summer spent deep in the lab, and are extremely happy to announce the first release on Cotch International Records:
Jumping Back Slash – Slow Oceans EP.
With distant glimmers of downtempo RnB and Gospel, as well as rhythmic nods towards Gqom, Kwaito and Pitori House, Slow Oceans is without doubt JBS’s most coherent and emotionally potent project yet, and a statement of intent for an artist that has truly found their own lane.
Recorded over a week-long studio session in Johannesburg at the start of summer ’16, Slow Oceans also brings to the fore two extremely talented South African vocalists, Hlasko and Nonku Phiri, who effortlessly glide over music, lacing the beats with lyrics charged with soulful emotion.
To celebrate, we’ve managed to secure Nonku Phiri’s debut performance on our shores, and have called in some serious recruitments as support.
