A night dedicated to the exploration, evolution and expression of African Music in all it’s forms. Classic, contemporary & future Afro-Dancefloor sounds + the absolute finest in Afro Funk, Beats & Breaks unearthed AND delivered by the cream of the world’s afrocentric live + DJ communities.
Taking you on a last Thurs monthly, eclectic polyrhythmic journey through Afrobeats to Breaks, Highlife to Kuduro, House to Funk N’ Garage. Anything and everything goes – as long as it’s Afro. Peckham to Senegal via Bamako.

BEAT AFRIQUE Launching with red hot International artists – Barcelona’s ALMA AFROBEAT ENSEMBLE LIVE in concert + a rock solid Afro jump set from Afri-Kokoa Head-honcho and Incognito DJ AJ KWAME to open and close the evening!
ALMA AFROBEAT ENSEMBLE:
Joining us from Barcelona are one of Europe’s heaviest hitting Afrobeat bands – the Alma Afrobeat Ensemble. They have developed their own unique take on traditional Afrobeat sounds, with diverse influences including Tribe Called Quest, P-Funk & Miles Davis’ Bitches Brew. Their brass heavy blend of Afro-Funk has been developed across 4x studio albums plus shows across the globe, and they’ll be coming live and direct to the CLF Stage!
AJ KWAME:
In support is our special guest host DJ AJ Kwame, bossman of London’s afro-art collective & record label ‘Afri-Kokoa’, AJ is also a key part of the incredible Incognito family and a firm CLF favourite. Catch him spinning a special ‘Afri-Kokoa’ set of afro-beat, funky highlife, afro-mashups & more.
Note: After Thurs June 23 launch, Beat Afrique will take place on the last Thursday of each month at The CLF / Bussey.
