Colombia’s rising electronic star, Andres Tamayo AKA An-Beat has wasted no time in catching the attention and gaining support from boyhood heroes such as Richie Hawtin, Joris Voorn, DJ Sneak and Claude Vonstroke in recent times. The Moustache label boss has released prolifically over the past few years on his own label as well as Depperfect, Neurotraxx Recordings and 1605, with his skills behind the turntables only cementing a growing reputation as one of the most respected names to emerge from South America. We had the pleasure of chatting to An-Beat to find out a bit more about the multitalented artist.

Hi An-Beat, how are you and what’s going on in your world at the moment?
Hi guys, I’m good. At the moment I am happy to be running my very own label called ‘Moustache’, as well as working on future projects. On top of everything, I am very happy to be part of The Bedroom Records! My latest release is Horny EP, which includes two original House tracks produced by myself, and two remixes by Locarini and Mr Jefferson.

Where are you currently based?
I’m living in Medellín, Colombia – it’s a beautiful city!

How would you describe your sound?
I would describe my sound as a mix of House and Hip-Hop, with soulful and funky elements. However, I consider myself to be a versatile artist and I can produce Tech House and Techno among others genres – my musical background is based mainly on House.

Who were your influences growing up?
My most influential artists were: Antoine Clamaran, Kurd Maverick and Fedde Le Grand. I used to sit and listen to their tracks every day for a long time.

How did you get involved in the Dance music business?
It all started back when I was at school and spent all night listening to Electronic tracks such as Trentemoller’s ‘What Else Is There?’, David Guetta’s ‘Love Is Gone’ and Kurd Maverick’s ‘The Rub’ and ‘Let’s Work’ to name a few. That inspired me to start producing my own records and here I am today giving it my best shot!

Where would you like to see yourself in the months ahead?
In the months ahead I see myself doing what makes me happy – playing music around the world, improving my production skills, making records and growing as an artist.

Which is your ultimate career dream?
One of my biggest dreams is to be on the same line up as one of my idols. I would also love to see my label ‘Moustache’ getting bigger and gain recognition and respect from people within the music industry.

Your latest releases include ‘The Town’ and ‘KINGZ EP’. How have the records been received by your fellow DJs and are you happy with the success of them?
Yeah sure, I’m very happy with the success of my latest releases. My partner received it well and I’m grateful for all his support – I hope I can keep producing good music for everyone!

Who’s inspiring you in 2016?
This year has seen my music grown a lot and it has inspired me to continue making music. My family, friends, and the people around me have also been a huge influence and inspiration.

If you could choose, who would you like to collaborate with?
Love this question! I would love to collaborate with my idol – Joris Voorn. I love his music and he too is one of my biggest influences.

Tell us something not many people know about An-Beat?
I usually don’t listen to Electronic music. I love Rock and I listen to The Batteries a lot – his guitar playing and solos are incredible!

Anything to add/shout outs?
I just want to express my love to everyone, especially The Bedroom, for supporting my amazing project and I am very grateful to be apart of The Bedroom’s journey.
