After firmly establishing itself in 2014, London’s cherished underground music and arts space, Studio 338, is all ready to roll again in 2015. Playing the venue across a 12 hour opening party will be Berlin trio ItaloJohnson performing a special four hour set, as well a New York deep house don Fred P, Livity Sound associate Kowton and Houndstooth’s main man, Call Super.

Headliners ItaloJohnson really know how to lay down groove driven sets of fulsome house and techno. The mysterious and anonymous Berlin trio run their own vinyl only label that always sells out, and serve up big, tough hits one after the other. Little more is known about the on point outfit, but be sure that their four hour set will need to be heard to be believed.

Next up, New York based Fred P makes deep, elegant music stripped of all but the most necessary ingredients. Whether infused with a smoky jazz motif, neo soul vocal or heavier, techno leaning crunch, it’s music that sounds as good years after release as it did on the day it initially came out. Most often releasing on either his own essential Soul People label, or those of friends like DJ Qu and Jus Ed, namely strength in music and underground quality respectively, Fred is a cerebral and considered talent.

Then comes Kowton, the man who helped pioneer dubstep and is now a real techno experimenter. Closely tied to labels like Idle Hands and Hessle Audio, Keysound Recordings and Pale Fire, although he mostly releases his hi fidelity productions on Livity Sound and as a DJ and producer is truly in a class of his own.

Despite the greatness of this line-up already, there is more to come: London born but Berlin based Call Super is the key producer on Houndstooth, the label affiliated with fabric club London. He released one of the LPs of the year in 2014 and has a sound couched in rave, breakbeat and techno. Expect the unexpected and you won’t be disappointed.

Lastly, Cartulis Day are hosting ‘The Loft’, which is a cosy sized second room upstairs that is raw, has a low ceiling and street art on the walls. It makes for a nice contrast with the terrace space downstairs adding another dimension, that is sure to raise the bar yet further at this most exciting London space.
