Carnival institution Sancho Panza, which began in a basement in north London on New Years Eve way back in 1992, have announced they won’t be taking part in this year’s Notting Hill Carnival due to building works taking place on their long time home of Middle Street.
After 20 years of representing at the carnival (and in our opinion, being one of the best soundsystems of the weekend) the building works have given the organisers Jimmy K Tel and Matt Brow a chance to take a year off.
“We thought long and hard about this, there’s certainly going to be a big Sancho Panza-shaped hole for a lot of us come the end of August but ultimately, we feel it’s the right thing to do,” says Jimmy K Tel.
They’ll review their decision come 2015. In the mean time you can catch them over at The Prince of Wales Brixton with Norman J on the 6th July – and at their residency at Great Eastern Street’s Trapeze on July 12.
