Original stuff from Origins Sound

Origins Sound – Detroit Cuts EP DMU013_Cover copy

Despite the title, this is not a hugely slavish Detroit house and techno EP, but instead a meaty offering of three seriously heavy tracks. It comes from Origins Sound, a fast emerging British duo on the Swiss label Definition: Music. Said label has released music from Hector Couto and Ben Mono before now but this might just be the best EP yet.

The title track goes first and as well as a sample that house fans will immediately recognise, there is plenty to get stuck into. All components of the track are full some, metallic and bulky and they make for a truly punchy groove with spangled basslines and grainy textures. Black is a more nimble and mobile groove that dances around a writhing bassline and has some nicely coloured synths spraying across its face at the mid way point to keep things from getting too dark and dirty. Finally, Amery surfs on nicely interlocking beats with crisp percussion and knotted, kinky basslines. Its physical, boisterous stuff and makes for a nice end to a useful EP.
