Slide return to The Lambeth on Saturday 27 July, bringing with them ‘A Love From Outer Space, AKA Andrew Weatherall & Sean Johnston. Last year’s EPIC party was our favourite summer Slide of 2012, if you didn’t make it here’s a little taster:
Not only a founding father of the UK’s acid house scene, Weatherall also produced one of the most pivotal albums of our generation, Primal Scream’s “Screamadelica”. Over the year’s he has leant his skills to remix the likes of My Bloody Valentine, Grinderman, Bjork and Happy Mondays. His Two Lone Swordsmen and Sabres of Paradise monikers were both released on the iconic UK label Warp Records and remain hugely respected to this day. He is also the proud owner of a fantastic beard.
Sean Johnston has been DJing since his formative years in the frozen North. His style, described as ‘future disco’, defies most genres – but one thing is certain, he knows how to rock a dance floor.
The manifesto of ALFOS is to never knowingly exceed 122bpm. Andrew describes it as “an oasis of slowness in a world of increasing velocity”. Sets journey through a multitude of genres including ambient, balearica, dub, krautrock, post punk, proto house, un-disco and other curiosities from the pair’s extensive record collections. These two sonic superpowers united, on one beautiful terrace, makes for an awesome afternoons dalliance in the sun.
Support comes from Slide regulars (and ALFOS favorites) – Eskimo Twins. Expect more musical joy from Craig Bratley and Scott Fraser, PLUS Slide residents Lloyd Wakeman and Rich Smith.
If you want a little teaser, then check out the Eskimo Twins EP. It’s out on Monday on Clouded Vision: Check it!
For your chance to win THREE tickets to this most splendid event, tell us your best eskimo joke. Eg Q.- How does an eskimo build his house? A. Igloos it together. HA. Pop your answers in an email to firstname.lastname@example.org…NOT REALLY! Send it to Jo@plainandsimple.tv
