Lucid Dreaming – Summer Sampler 2013
April 2013
Australian label Lucid Dreaming have prepped a brand new Summer Sampler package ahead of the arrival of the first sun that shows them to be a label tinged with blissful Balearica as much as lush house. Tracks come from an array of fresh and exciting artists and all follow in the good foundations the label has laid down since starting in 2011.
Things kicks off with Yale’s ‘Lost in the Crowd’ which wallows in downbeat synths and gently tumbling drums in a very heartfelt way. From there the likes of Flex Cop gets almost horizontal on his twinkling, underlapping disco house cut and Dominic James lays in plenty of cosmic synth energy and celestial melodies on his disco fried ‘Valledrome Prince’.
There are many other highlights too, including the tight garage skip of Ryan Yates’ ‘Unnamed’ and Cerule’s woozy, deep pop house number ‘Thinking of You’. A little pricklier and more theatrical is Tough Love Ft Kevin Leight’s ‘Manic’ with its organic piano chords and airy male vocal coos.
Lucid Dreaming is a label that deals in plenty of fresh house feeling and likes to go its own way, rather than aping the zeitgeist. For that reason this compilation is likely to win it many more new fans.
