Plain and Simple’s roving reporter/man about town and clubbing addict Jammy brings you his eye view of the event he was partying at in the last week… This time he spent his birthday jaunt at Rejam’s 2nd birthday at Basing House.
Hello and welcome to Jammy’s Jaunts! Your weekly clubbing review of London! This jaunt was my special birthday weekender and only included one review. This was the very special 2nd birthday of Rejam at Basing House. It was really cool to share my birthday celebrations with the Rejam crew and it’s amazing to see how far they have come in such a short amount of time, ever since I caught only their second party over at Public Life. Two years down the line and special guests such as NoiDoi, Daniel Bell and Soul Capsule have played for them as well as warming up for Adam Beyer, Chris Liebing and the Cocoon and Drumcode parties respectively. For the 2nd birthday, their headliners were Dorian Paic (Cocoon) and Herodot (Sunrise) with support from the Rejam residents Nick Powell – Davis, Jack Doyle and Pete Glasspool. Arriving just after midnight, the place was beginning to fill very comfortably with the usual Rejam family, all in attendance. Pete Glasspool warmed things up well and as I got there Herodot was just about to start. His music suited Rejam down to the tee and it was the right sound for Rejam and the Rejam masses. The last time I caught him play was over at 93 Feet East last year and he was quite impressive there too. He obviously impressed and I’m sure he has been on the Rejam radar for a while and his sound and groove perfectly complimented the sound of Rejam. As the birthday celebrations progressed the crowd continued to build and it was slowly time for their next headliner to come onto the decks: Dorian Paic (Head of raum…musik and DJ for Cocoon). Herodot played really well and Dorian had his work cut out to continue the groove that he had created.
Paic started off pretty well and he had his own type of solid groove that he wanted to express. In my opinion he didn’t compliment Herodot’s set well enough to be able to really work the crowd. His track selection was ok but needed to do more I thought, to really impress the clued up Rejam faithful. The music was rolling tech house which lacked a certain punch but to give credit where it’s due, Paic did drop some quality tracks in his set and it was met with cheers and enjoyment. Finally to close proceedings for the party were the very talented residents Nick Powell – Davis and Jack Doyle. By then, the crowd were waiting for something different to reenergise themselves and the Rejam boys certainly delivered and many people who I spoke to, mentioned that their set was the highlight of the party.
It’s really nice to hear this at a DJs’ own party and it definitely adds to the excitement of playing out to the loyal fans. It seemed like every track they dropped had its own separate meaning and the Rejam crowd were really feeling it. It was a wicked set and I was honoured to share Rejam’s 2nd birthday and my birthday alongside lots of people that I know. The groove came back once Nick and Jack got on the decks and it never left them. They gave the crowd exactly what they wanted and they made sure that they finished their birthday party in style! It was great to see this and incredible how much has changed in 2 years and what happens now over the next few years for Rejam. A very promising future ahead for this collective group of music enthusiasts! A great joint birthday jaunt and lots of fun was had by all! What a weekend! Same time next weekend?! 🙂
