Division comes from M.F.SObservatory!

With Italy playing host to arguably Europe’s fastest growing house and techno scene right now, it’s only natural that a bevy of quality-laden labels are going to spring up from time to time. Say hello then, to Cat for Lunch, a Milan located label that serves to emphasise all that’s excellent about their country’s contemporary liking for distinguished sounding electronica.

M.F.S Observatory’s ‘Division’ EP falls neatly into the label’s brief back catalogue too, with four raw, textured outings vying for your attention. “Division” kicks off matters, with its taut drum-work underpinning an unruly tech-house riff and a gloriously obscure vocal.

The second of the two originals, “Goal”, is the EP’s most striking work, with the producers scoring a pretty spectacular solo run this time around. Armed with clattering drums and a samba like vibe, it’s the sort of record that’s sure to appease the likes of Loco Dice in the early hours. And there’s no surprising for guessing that vocal either…

Promising Italian producer Alex Costa serves up the first of the customary remixes, a re-rub of “Division” that’s even more impetuous and impulsive than its bigger brother. The label owners, Metrophonique close out the EP with their version of “Goal”; a record that makes more occasional use of the drums before it adds a solid tech-house template to the equation.

8/10
