Plain and Simple’s roving reporter/man about town and clubbing addict Jammy brings you his eye view of the event he was partying at in the last week… This time he spent his jaunt at ELM (East London Movement) and at One More.
Hello and welcome to Jammy’s Jaunts! Your weekly clubbing review of London! Last weekend’s jaunt included the very special ELM (East London Movement) opening night at Crucifix Lane and the One More party over at Hearn St. Kicking off proceedings was ELM’s 10 hour opening party of the year on Friday night at their home of Crucifix Lane. Headlining their party was Damian Schwartz (Oslo Records, AHD) and Christian Burkhardt (Oslo Records, Cocoon) supported by Blind Minded, Mathieu Mirande and Andrea Giudice. It’s been a while since I last went for a good night out on a Friday and this had potential to be a very good one! Arriving around midnight, the place was still beginning to fill up and warming up proceedings was ELM’s very own Mathieu Mirande. Groovy bassline beats were smashing through the Crucifix Lane soundsystem and music really suited the ELM vibe and by halfway through the set, the club began to fill comfortably. It was good seeing Mathieu playing again and the vision of ELM looks very promising for 2013 with Dinky headlining their next party on 22nd February.
By the time it got to 1am, the party was very busy the ELM faithful had come out in force. Next up was Blind Minded, who continued the vibe and carried on the flow that Mathieu Mirande had created and some really decent tracks were dropped. I was pleasantly surprised by this! Good vibes all around and the crowd really loved the set by Blind Minded. Always nice to see an unknown DJ play and go and enjoy his/her music for what it is. By the time Damian Schwartz came on after, Crucifix Lane was buzzing with anticipation for the main headliners. It was the first time I have seen Schwartz play and it was pretty groovy with loads of quality tracks being dropped. He really complimented Christian Burkhardt with his flair and great track selections with both releasing on Oslo Records too. It’s quite difficult running a really good underground Tech-house/Techno party in London and to have it on a Friday is a great testament to the hard work the ELM crew do, to make this a successful party. Burkhardt was pure groove, with every track and bassline thundering through the Crucifix soundsystem. Don’t think I have seen him play before either so it was good to tick another one off the list! A cool party run by cool people and it was a nice way to start the weekend off. I bowed out at around 6am while the party continued into the early hours of Saturday morning. Wicked Friday jaunt! Next up was the very popular and successful party called ‘One More’. Based over at Hearn St Carpark in Shoreditch, they have brought their own sound and have made a massive impact on the clubbing scene in London. Past events have included amazing talent to play for them such as Tiefschwarz, Pan-Pot, Guy Gerber and Radioslave just to name a few! Also during the summer last year they had their very own off Sonar bash in Barcelona. This party had headlining for them Ryan Elliott and Skudge (live) as well as residents Outart and Arnaud Le Texier. Arriving on a cold and rainy Saturday, it was my first One More and it was cool to visit a new space in London which I have never been to before. Created by Alex, Nunzio and Stefano, they have found a great space to hold their parties in and it is very clear to see how much hard work has gone into this. Set times were, Outart 00:00 – 02:00, Ryan Elliott 02:00 – 04:00, Skudge (live) 04:00 – 05:00, Arnaud Le Texier 05:00 – 06:30. Arrived just after 1am, the space was filling up nicely with resident Outart really warming things up well. As he was playing it was clear to see that Skudge’s hardware already set up behind and it was incredible, the amount of analogue hardware they needed and the room that was needed too!
When Ryan Elliott came on, he was quality. I really enjoyed his 2 hours of Tech House and Techno that made the crowd go crazy! From America, the Panorama Bar resident really exhibited his DJing skills and technically he was incredible. He really captured the vibe and the mood of the party and definitely another DJ worth checking out if you have never seen him play. He will be back here in April for the 2nd Birthday of Weekend Circuit in London, so check him out there. Tune after tune that he played got the crowd wanting more and it was a great first One More for me to experience. Next up was the live act of Skudge. The Swedish duo were up and delivered a truly incredible live set. Another act that I have seen play for the first time at One More and they truly were the highlight of the party. Great vibes and they really smashed the Techno out! Totally annihilating the crowd and the soundsystem to bits! I love Techno in London and this party was a pure example of how a party should be like and run. What a great weekend of jaunting with great friends, great people and great music! Same time, next weekend? 🙂
