Heidi Presents Jackathon Jams / Released July 2012

What does it sound like?

Though house music dame Heidi’s new imprint doesn’t come with the catchiest of names there’s certainly very little to complain about in terms of its first release, as a triptych of female faces deliver some unarguably enjoyable beats and pieces. Kicking off with lady of the moment Maya Jane Coles, who offers up some solid tech stylings with Get Freaky, utilising hypnotic vocal murmurings, an equally trance-inducing hook and a kind of David Duriez chug. 2AM fare no less.

Miss Kittin’s Girlz takes the toughness further, into full blown techno, albeit of the variety only she and a few others know how to do- shades of electroclash saturating the background of the track as typically distorted lyrics bring on a punkish vibe, whilst alarms, sirens, and reverberating synth-lines add an air of urgency or even panic to the deal. As such tINI’s deep, immersive and wholly minimal re-reading is an accomplished example of re-reading a tune into something completely different, if nothing else (it’s actually very good in itself though).

What highlights can I expect to hear?

Rather difficult to pin point, but tINI’s closing sentiments are pretty standout, somewhere close to The Mole at his most stripped, and very Desolat. Still, those looking for more intense offerings won’t be left out in the cold here either, as the other two productions are far from woeful misses.

Where can I buy it?

Juno.
