After a hugely successful inaugural launch at the start of this year, Bugged Out Weekender will be returning to Butlins in Bognor Regis, bigger and better for 2013. With a 2012 bill that featured acts including Diplo, Simian Mobile Disco, Hudson Mohawke, and Claude Von Stroke, Bugged Out is once again set to create a line-up that represents a culmination of its rich history and reads like a who’s who of the best forward-thinking dance talent around.
“This year we had DJs on the bill that have been playing for us since we began in 1994 alongside fast rising DJs who were unknown only a few years ago. We even had acts who inspired us before we started promoting like Kevin Saunderson. Everyone was buzzing off each other.” – Bugged Out
Amongst the first names added to the 2013 bill are Hot Flush head honcho and Berghain resident Scuba, who released his third album ‘Personality’ this year to widespread critical acclaim, and co-founder of London-based Hessle Audio label, Ben UFO. One of the undisputed leaders of the current UK dance scene, his ability to seamlessly fuse the freshest sounds across house, techno, garage, 2-step and dubstep make him a perfect fit for the Bugged Out! Weekender.
Joining them will be legendary British DJ Dave Clarke, widely regarded as one of the pioneers of the 90s techno scene, Bugged Out! stalwart Erol Alkan, and Andrew Weatherall & Ivan Smagghe, two visionaries of electronic club music who have carved a uniquely cutting edge niche for themselves in leftfield electronica and techno. After providing a poignant final set at the 2012 Weekender they will once again be closing the Weekender in Jaks on Sunday night.
Also returning to the Weekender will be bouncing bassline loving Bristol boy Eats Everything and Maya Jane Coles, heralded by Mixmag as ‘the hottest emerging talent in dance music’ and nominated for ‘Best Breakthrough Producer’ by DJ Mag for her distinctive blend of tech-house infused with deep vibes.
Completing the initial announcement for 2013’s line-up is Crosstown Rebels’ very own Maceo Plex, who will be bringing his unique brand of funky, sultry deep house to Butlins, BBC Radio 1’s First Lady Heidi – whose Jackathon party has proved a worldwide success, thanks in no small part to its unpretentious approach to the dance floor – and fellow Radio 1 DJ Toddla T. Billed as The Toddla T Sound, this new live show concept will showcase Toddla’s two albums to date, Skanky Skanky and Watch Me Dance in a way that bridges the gap between his hugely successful DJ sets and an all out live show, including bespoke visuals and a brilliant light show.
Speaking about the Bugged Out! Weekender 2012, promoter Charlotte Hotham says, “We didn’t know what to expect until gone midnight on the Friday when we were bowled over by the spirit of the crowd. There were smiles all round all weekend. And a lot of dancing (unless you got stuck on the Hello Kitty ride for hours on end).”
As with last year, Bugged Out! will be welcoming a host of club partners to help curate the Weekender. Among the first to be confirmed are Union, who will be returning once again after hosting a packed out room last year, Urban Nerds, who over the past four years have risen in the ranks of underground clubbing to become one of London’s biggest bass brands, and Krankbrother, whose penchant for hosting parties in unused and special locations such as rooftops, yachts and railway arches will see them take on a new distinctive location in the form of Butlins. Joining them will be Junk Department, whose forward-thinking musical policy, meticulous attention to detail and enthusiasm has seen them blaze a trail over the clubbing industry in recent years and Bristolian house club Just Jack who have gone from strength-to-strength from humble beginnings.
Early bird tickets are now available and will be on sale until Wednesday 27th July. There are a limited number of £99 tickets (for silver rooms) available through Butlins and all other rooms have 20% off the ticket price: http://www.bigweekends.com/splash-pages/bugged-out-weekender.aspx
