Win free entry to Soul Clap’s ‘yOyOyO 90s Rave w/ Doc Martin, Robert Owens & The Martinez Brothers

“Back in the day when we was teenagers, before we had status and before we had pagers, you could find these ravers, dancing to house music, our pops’ used to say it was just our way to lose it.”

That’s right, Soul Clap’s infamous ‘Yo 90s Dance Jam’ is back this time with, ‘The Rave Edition’ for all you london nuttahs. The line up is once again stacked to the brim with enough dopeness to make you say “word to yo mutha”!  Fusing House, Garage, Hip-Hop, R&B, New Jack Swing, Techno and even a few Pop classics – no guilty pleasures will be unfulfilled on the night as previous guests like Ashley Beedle, Danny Rampling and Coldcut can tell you first hand.

Recreating the sounds and vibe of the golden decade, the party is the brainchild of Soul Clap’s Eli Goldstein and Charlie Levine (who will also been appearing on the night) and harks back to everything that rocked about the 90s – from luminous tracksuits to the glow sticks, expect to be transported back to a time where many of stars of today’s electronic music scene first cut their teeth.

Headlining and repping San Frandisco is the one and only Doc Martin who will no doubt prove once more why he earned his title as a 90s house boss! Our friend until the end, Robert Owens will also be in full effect with a very special live PA of all his 90’s hits, and as if we didn’t have enough talent, our Martinez Brothers from other mothers will be bringing pushing that 90s flavour into the future. All this plus of course the Soul Clap guys themselves.

yOyOyO 90S Jam Rave E-dition

Lineup: Soul Clap, Doc Martin, Robert Owens (live), Martinez Brothers

Bringing back the fun-loving times of the 1990s, SPL Agency once again present the retro-fuelled yOyOyO 90s Jam Rave E-dition.

Doc Martin embodies the 90s spirit like no other with his wide palette of House and Techno that dates back to his beginnings as DJ in the late 80s. Heading the Sublevel record label and party in his native California, he’s seen the full cycle of the last 20 years of House music and has refrained from letting trends dictate the contents of his record bag. Hand-picking anything from Deep House to Acid he will explore the true sounds of the decade and as someone who was there to witness the music first-hand, he’ll be delving extra deep for some hidden gems for the night.

Vocalist Robert Owens will also be on hand for some live renditions of his lengthy discography that really took shape in this decade. The man responsible for early House classics like ‘I’ll be Your Friend’ and ‘I’m Strong’ is still as active as ever today, working with current House heavyweights such as Jamie Jones and party hosts Soul Clap. With timeless vocals that stand out instantaneously there’s no denying that his seminal work has influenced generations of singers and his style is one that he can truly call his own.

You would never guess their age from the sounds of their wide-reaching sets, but having only been babies themselves during the 90s, The Martinez Brothers are a precocious pairing to say the least. The duo began DJing under the tutelage of their father who was a regular at legendary New York haunts such as the Paradise Garage as well as being brought to wider public attention by Objectivity head-honcho Dennis Ferrer. Their DJ sets and productions are as energetic as they come so expect a journey through their roots of New York’s old school masters such as Kerri Chandler, Masters At Work, Armand Van Helden and Todd Terry as they show their key influences from the decade.

Taking place at secret East London venue in true 90s rave fashion, you’re going to have to keep your eyes and ears firmly to the ground to find out the location for this one, but just like back in the day, it’s all part of the nostalgic experience.
