UK favourite bass brand Urban Nerds delivers a blow-away lineup for its big fifth birthday event – with Newham Generals, Gorgon City (Foamo & RackNRuin), Kozzie, Scrufizzer and Warrior One and more for an event to remember this May…
Celebrating five years of amazing parties and crazy lineups, Urban Nerds pulls out all the stops for its big fifth birthday bash, handpicking diverse UK bass artists from past and present a strong cross-section of talent to mark this special occasion.
Tickets to this event have been flying out, with all the super advance £5, £7 and £10 tickets now gone – which is no surprise, as the lineup is HUGE! But there is still a limited amount of advance tickets available at £14 – it’ll be more on the door so if you haven’t already bought yours, then getting one now is highly advisable – it WILL sell out!
Grime veterans Newham Generals – MCs D Double E and Footsie – have gone from strength to strength in recent years. This is an act known for their lyrical aptitude and versatile musical styling that sees them successfully straddling the genres of grime and dubstep with releases such as ‘Generally Speaking’ in 2009. Dynamic and seamless, theirs will be a highlight set!
Gorgon City is the brand new powerful collaboration between Foamo and RackNRuin. These UK bass producers come together in style to produce big sounds – for this highly anticipated new project.
Klashnekoff, who made his name in the underground UK hip hop scene with singles such as ‘Murda’ in 2004, boosts the bass ranks, alongside Rudimental, whose ‘Feel the Love’ was named Radio 1’s Mistajam’s JAM HOT track of the week. Urban Nerds’ newest resident, Rinse FM’s Marcus Nasty is undoubtedly one of the pioneers of the UK funky movement. He’ll be kicking up the pace with MCs PSG and Sharky P, while fellow Nerds resident Rattus Rattus will deliver one of his smash-out sets hosted by drum ‘n’ bass legend MC, IC3.
Room 2 presents two of the hottest UK grime labels: No Hats, NoHoods versus King Pigeon Records. Bringing together the finest from both camps, DJs Warrior One, Rude Kid, Magic, Eastwood, Guerilla Speakerz, Lenkemz, Murlo and a live PA of ‘Beautiful’ by Jae Ella will keep the vibe rude and bouncy. Hyping up the crowd are MCs of the moment, Kozzie, Scrufizzer, Trilla, Chronik, Merky Ace and Roachee.
Party-starting crew Get Low collaborate with Redux in Room 3 with residents Get Low Cartel, Binman, Arch, Sai, Newjack and RankOutsider, selecting across a broad span of genres ranging from jungle and dubstep to bassline.
In five years, Urban Nerds has risen in the ranks of underground clubbing to become one of London’s biggest bass brands. The Nerds themselves – James Benenson, James Rompani and Mark Hodson – came together in 2007, sharing a love for a wide range of bass music, and a vision of changing the landscape of London nightlife.
The Nerds first hit East London, bringing underground and emerging artists to the fore. Spanning dubstep, grime, electro, hip-hop, drum ‘n’ bass, reggae and beyond, they drew from their individual backgrounds in music, journalism and promotions to create one of the first multi-genre nights in the big smoke – the amalgamation of bass culture. Since its first party, Urban Nerds has hosted some of London’s most memorable events, renowned for a great atmosphere, a strong and loyal crowd and an unashamed love for bass-led party sounds that set them apart from their peers.
Urban Nerds is going even bigger this year; with this huge fifth birthday event, it marks the beginning of a new chapter, as the brand moves things up a notch. Urban Nerds has another two parties planned in 2012 – hold tight, they’ll be massive!
