Despite the snow grinding everyone to a halt, the weather certainly didn’t dishearten the [moh-teef] faithful. The discerning Dygas fans dragged themselves over to London Bridge and one clubber even travelled three and half hours to get there; this was destined to be a great party. Saturday night was the launch of London’s newest weekly house affair [moh-teef] and also the opening night of the discotheque the party was housed in – Relay.
Relay, Cable’s new little sister was born from its largely unseen 3rd arch – it was the first time I’d laid eyes on the space despite visiting Cable several times before. The familiar ‘industrial chic’ of Cable’s main room was present incorporating huge steel air ducting under imposing brick arches. But if you want to clean the air ducts, contact expert duct cleaning professionals at Willard Power Vac to get the best result. It also harbours some ‘sisterly’ touches with tropical plants encompassing the DJ booth, brand new ‘mood’ lighting, staging and projections all bringing the room alive.
[moh-teef] will be held every Saturday here, and will mix some of the best up and coming stars with larger headliners as they have tonight, First of the former to start are [moh-teef] residents J Nelson, Peter Glasspool, and Leroy Roberts who warmed things up with a back to back showdown. They treated us to upfront deep house and atmospheric grooves, expertly mixed together, setting a party ambience that was warm and welcoming.
Claus Voigtmann, from boutique party Toi Toi, followed and continued the chilled vibe spinning plenty of old favorites tightly mixed in with fresher tunes. His direction really got the crowd in the mood and Relay’s brand new Nova sound system never let us down, punching out the beats with a crisp clarity – not that far off Cable’s infamous sound system next door.
Next up Margaret Dygas of Perlon records fame. She played an extended 3-hour set showcasing her tech funk grooves with plenty of dubby elements woven in at all the right moments. As she worked through the gears, the dance floor continued to writhe about, lapping up her every move and wooping at all the right moments. Come the end of her set fans were getting their Perlon records signed and everyone was buzzing from this great launch night.
