Mute launch new record label Liberation Technologies

One of the most revered imprints in the world has announced plans to set up a brand new outlet this year, with the first release scheduled to arrive in March. With some serious pedigree involved this should be quite the one to watch as 2012 gets underway.

Liberation Technologies is the new label being set up by Mute, the institution founded in 1978 that has been a home to the likes of Depeche Mode, Yazoo, Goldfrapp, Apparat, S.C.U.M., VMCG, and via Nova Mute Plastikman/ Richie Hawtin, and Speedy J, in addition to an unfathomably long list of non-electronic based artists. This new arm aims to give producers plenty of space to experiment, while keeping things firmly focused on the world of drum machines and synths.

Patrick O’Neill is the A&R man that has been drafted in to steer this new vessel, and he’s a chap that boasts an impressive list of previous work, featuring names such as Zomby, T++, Actress, and Joy Orbison- all quality drum machine pedlars. The first cut, Spring EP, will be released on March 19th, and comes courtesy of King Felix, a producer also known as Laurel Halo who hails from the fertile musical breeding ground of Michigan’s Ann Arbor, via the equally creative outpost of Brooklyn.
