Since its inception in spring of this year one particular every-so-often event that takes place in the subterranean, Bierkeller style layer that is Manchester’s Moho Live has continued to impress. A recommendation in The Guardian, and appearances from broken beat titans like Remarc, Doc Scott, Kenny Ken, Ray Keith, Mampi Swift, and MC Fearless all attest to that.
This Friday, December 9th, sees the next instalment of the junglist session that is Bad Man Ting, and early signs suggest things are set to go off again in suitably old school-ish style. This time round 1Xtra’s DJ Bailey will be in the house ready for a festive tear up, as will the infamous DJ Ron, while Bassman of Shadow Demon Coalition caps off the headline reasons to head down.
There’s also a turntable contest taking place, featuring four stalwarts of the North West scene. The winner of that secures £100 in cash and a six-month residency at the night, in addition to stealing their rival’s own regular slots, and making an appearance on Ron’s prestigious Kool FM London radio show, which should ensure things get pretty serious.
In the backroom there will be a hip hop jam session (though note that’s not the same as open mic), and this being Christmas it’s also nice to see some charity action going down, with all profits being donated to the ABC Trust, which is dedicated to helping street children in Brazil. As such expect a raffle draw, and no doubt a lot of fun, with some rare and collectable prizes up for grabs straight from the collections of recent guests.
