Sepalcure ‘Pencil Pimp’

Sepalcure / Pencil Pimp

Vinyl / Digital

Hotflush Recordings / Released November 2011

What does it sound like?

Hotflush duo Sepalcure remind us all how surprising it is that they’re only just releasing a debut album, despite having seemed to be everywhere for more than a little while, by offering a taster of the forthcoming LP. The title track boasts new-school “it’s fast, but it’s slow” stylings abound, complete with filtered vocal cries and an early rave-house sounding analogue hook, all set to a neat shuffle beat tempo. Flip it to find I’m Alright, a lighter, more soulful number made up of warm organ melodies flying off into synth stabs, occasional padded kicks, and garage-y lyrical arrangements. A fresh double-header to say the least.

Where would I dance to it?

Nights wherein people don’t crave four fours.

What highlights can I expect to hear?

It might be the darker nights and impending duvet mornings, but the summery vibes on I’m Alright do the do for us.

Why should I pay for it?

Vinyl.

Where can I buy it?

Juno.
