A Sagittariun ‘The Circle Stops Somewhere (& MD2 Rmxs)’

A Sagittariun / The Circle Stops Somewhere (& MD2 Rmxs)

Vinyl

Elastic Dreams / Released October 2011

What does it sound like?

Fresh arrangements from a very fresh Bristol label. The new imprint opens scoring with a record full of difficult to pigeonhole electronic music marking the bosses out as both refreshing, and potentially brave A&Rs (depending on what happens next).

Thankfully the track, B-side, and remixes are all good enough to ensure it doesn’t really matter what canon they fall into. Opening with The Circle Stops Somewhere we’re taken on a dubby, techy, Tejada-style ride through warm, clean sounding beats and delicate percussion. Overleaf, so to speak, MD2, AKA Mike Dehnert, delivers his first reworking, adding a shuffling rhythm and somewhat out of sync take on the original melody, while echoed effects create a little more 6am atmosphere.

This then provides something of a starting point for the second, MD2 Hard mix, which lives up to its name, focusing on solid kick drums, bleep-hooks and reverberated synths, a little like Perc with more soul. Finally it’s up to Telepathic Heights to call time, and the track does just that by merging off beat snares with a rolling beat and crunching hats, resulting in a track that should appeal to fans of Agora Rhythm, XXXY, and plenty more seemingly disparate production names. It’s not quite anything, but does it very well indeed.

Where would I dance to it?

With early support having come from Brendon Moeller, Craig Richards, DJ Deep, and Christopher Rau you should get an idea of where this one is headed.

What highlights can I expect to hear?

All outings are of a very high standard indeed, so really it’s about personal taste here. Those that relish in stamping their feet should look no further than the ever-building MD2 Hard Mix, however if you’re looking for something truly memorable Telepathic Heights is deserving of much attention.

Why should I pay for it?

Aside from UK economic worries and the need to support domestic businesses it’s a quality release.

Where can I buy it?

All quality outlets.
