What does it sound like?
Bedrock issues a triple header that’s one in the eye to those that still think the label’s proggy past dominates its contemporary sound. Don’t misunderstand, there’s an omnipresence that suggests any of two originals and one remix could toughen up at any moment, but we’re talking more reservation than arabesque vocals and meteoric explosions.
Logically opening with the EP’s title track weighty kicks contrast the somewhat floaty, dub techno flavour to the hi-hats and distant melodies while additional cymbals provide the accents. If there were comparisons to be drawn then looking into Raff ‘N’ Freddy’s classic Deep Progress wouldn’t be a bad place to begin, as here is another example wherein heads down, groovy house meets constant waves of trancey synth, only in the year 2011.
Also in the package is Vincenzo’s take on the lead tune, and the re-reading takes us into techier directions. A Wiggle-like low end adds more bounce than bite, so to speak, meanwhile razor sharp hooks spiral in and out of occasional earshot. Finally we’re treated to Furry Walls, a drummy outing that’s not a thousand miles away from the tropical edged sounds perhaps best realised on Ricardo Villalobos’ Thé Au Harem D’Archimède, only with far more structure as echoed wooden percussion, droning sirens, and blunt organs do most of the work.
Where would I dance to it?
As the aforementioned suggests the trio should find some favour with fans of modern prog, commanding tech, and more minimal variations respectively.
What highlights can I expect to hear?
Everybody Loves Ice Cream, be it the source material or resulting reincarnation, just about pips the third offering to the post here. That said, if you’re looking for some druggy, padded atmospherics then perhaps Furry should be the weapon of choice. Either way you’re on to a winner.

Three main reasons- track one is good, track two also, and the third equal to both.
