FOUND launches this September: 13 hand-picked nights of progressive music

Pioneering, forward-thinking and ground-breaking, FOUND is a series devoted to the vast spectrum of music genres with their roots firmly planted in bass music; from progressive dubstep, dub-techno, and UK house strands to 2-step, garage, four-to-the-floor beats and drum ’n’ bass – FOUND connects the artists, labels and promoters at the forefront of underground British dance music across 13 intricately programmed events.

The night,  which takes in 13 Friday night events at Vauxhall venue Hidden, has been curated by James Benenson – the promoter behind London bass brand Urban Nerds – in collaboration with Will Paterson, one half of the team behind London’s boundary-breaking eastern electrics events. Armed with an unrivalled knowledge of British underground dance culture, James and Will have linked with more than 15 truly underground, grass-roots club promoters, and FOUND is the result.

This very special, limited Friday series launches on September 30th with a night that encompasses the FOUND ethos. International producer and DJ Justin Martin will play a very special three-hour set. He’s joined by underground innovators Instra:Mental, whose sound sits between drum ’n’ bass, techno, electro and hip-hop. Deep Teknologi label head T. Williams will bring hypnotic deep house, funky and dubstep, and rising star Nightwave – whose bass-led releases have earned her quick notoriety – also joins the lineup.
Tighten Up Records fills Hidden’s second arch, with A1 Bassline accompanied by label-mates Kavsrave and Alfie, plus 2-step and garage era leaders, Dem 2, and Deadly Rhythm Soundsystem will be delivering a broad spectrum of bass-derived sounds on the Mezzanine.

The following week on October 7th London and Brighton- based monsters Beat Redemption arrive. Renowned for their unabashed exploration of the deeper side of dubstep, Beat Redemption are big players. For FOUND they bring Ben Westbeech’s refreshing house and techno approach,  and Dutch producer and percussive beat-maker 2562, who’s been releasing his dub, garage and techno-inspired sound since 2008. Added to this mix sets from new-wave dubstepper Midland, Action Jackson, Gramrcy and more – plus a second arch hosted by Join the Dots, with emerging dubstep talent Youandewan and deep’n’atmospheric producer-of-the-moment Duffstep, among others.

Trix and Eglo Records share the FOUND reins on October 14th, demonstrating the pure eclecticism of this new series. Trix is an exciting new addition to London’s underground music scene – a hub for house, techno and bass for the discerning underground raver. Swamp81 label boss and pioneering London powerhouse Loefah takes to the decks alongside Lone and Mosca, plus Bristol dub enthusiast Applebim and Hyperdub’s newest recruit Ossie are in attendance.

Alexander Nut’s Eglo Records take to the second arch, with Nut himself, joined by label-mates Arp101 (Alix Perez’s deeper moniker) and Funkineven, with the stunning live vocals of the soulful Fatima. Expect a reflection of the broken-beat, funky, house and jazzy sounds that populate Eglo’s Rinse FM residency.

On to November 11th and Heritage will pay homage to some of the most influential electronic sounds from London’s rich dance music history, combining original 2-step, UK garage and four-to-the-floor with today’s bass-led incarnations. Pioneers such as Scott Garcia, Matt Jam Lamont, Slimzee and D.E.A. Project play alongside Keysound label heads Dusk & Blackdown and T. Williams delves deep into the box for a one-off garage set. And that’s not it – there’s more to be announced.

The FOUND Friday series is held at Hidden in Vauxhall, one of London’s truly undercover clubs. Once a haven for the darker drum ’n’ bass and rave-led nights that preceded the sounds that dominate nightlife in the Big Smoke today, Hidden has had a makeover, and is focused on becoming one of London’s foremost underground venues. FOUND marks a shift in the programming at Hidden as the club opens its doors to the next incarnation of the bass sound, breaking the mould of the traditional East London circuit to offer up an incredible three-room clubbing experience set in a classic railway arch.
