Following the success of the underground tech grooves of “Creation Of Your Mind” by Bahar Canca and Matt Williams; comes the “Mellow EP”. This release sees Matt Williams, teaming up with Mark L’ Hat, a new addition to the Sub Bubble stable.
“Mellow” (which its anything but) pays homage to the past with a memorable leadline that grabs your senses on first listen and takes you back to dancefloors of 10 years ago. Off kilter stabs rub up and down off the stury chest thumping kickdrum, whilst the low end bass pulses underpin the groove. The arrangement winds along teasing and pushing, filters open and close to create a sense of drama before crashing back in after the breakdown.
Weekend Heroes need no introduction, currently signed to Global Underground UK and have released tracks with worldwide labels such as: Toolroom, Baroque, Armarda, Iboga, with hit singles such as Fear Factor (Plastik Park) which the likes of Umek used in his ToolRoom Records Compilation and their remix of Ticon’s “Models on Cocaine” (Iboga) reached Number 2 in Beatport’s Progressive House Charts.
The guys turn in a wonderful hypnotic mix, reaching back into the early days of house music but with a full-bodied contemporary production. The technoid stabs deliver an array of harmonics that sets the spine to tingle mode and would not sound out of place 4am at Fabric on a Saturday night / Sunday morning. The groove pulls you in as the pads and top line work there way between the slamming kick drum and ass shaking percussion.
Also included in the package is a mix from Bahar Canca, already featuring on all Sub Bubble releases so far, it would be rude not to be included on remix duties here! Bahar strips down the original delivering a refined chugging groove incorporating her DJ friendly flourishes and use of white noise effects. The lead riff gets the LFO blender treatment, teasing it in and out the mix for full impact upon the final drop.
Last but not least are the sounds of “Fazed” an acidic bubble bath of chunky grooves, minimalistic arrangement and militant drum sequences. The sense of urgency in the production adds layers of intensity for the 4am heads down massive. The digital horn like synthesized parts would literally melt the cones on a large system –
