Royksopp offer fans a chance to film

We thought they were generous enough, what with September’s sublime album, Senior, still sending us off to a Valium wonderland every time we hear Coming Home, and the recent videos that have left us bewildered, yet entertained. But now the Norwegian electronica stalwarts have gone one step further,  by letting appreciative heads everywhere get involved.

Royksopp have launched a film competition, alongside Genero.tv. That’s the setup responsible for getting enthisiastic anybodies to make music videos for the likes of Booka Shade, UNKLE and Moby. As is the case with all these things, more information is available here. But, to summarise; people put together a video for any one of the nine tracks from the aforementioned album. Then 27 finalists will be chosen, through community voting, by the good folk at Genero, and, of course, the Scandinavian duo. Finally, one person wins $3,000, while another eight walk away with $1,000. That’s US Dollars, by the way.

If you’re interested, then you can submit work between November 4th 2010, and January 17th 2011. Rest assured, we’ll be keeping a close eye on the entrants. And if, by some recession-busting chance, the money’s not incentive enough, then perhaps the thought that a selection of worthwhile winners get screened at the BUG music video event, will bring out the Chris Cunningham in you. For more information about what that is, other than a celebration of short films made to promote aural artists that takes place at the BFI next February, then get over to Bug Videos now.
