Plain & Simple

Skint Records turns 15

It’s a month of birthdays this October in the electronic music world, as Skint Records turn 15 years old.  With Big Beat reunion events packing the punters in all over the country it seems an appropriate time to reflect on the label that was at the forefront of the movement. Skint Records burst onto the scene in the mid-Nineties with fistful of artists that set the musical pace – Fatboy Slim, Hardknox, Lo-Fi’s, Midfield General, Freq Nasty and others changed the direction of electronic music with a refreshingly open minded attitude to dance music that connected with the nation.

Unlike many of the other players and labels in the scene that died away once the fashion for Big Beat waned, Skint Records evolved into a forward thinking electronic label, always ready to push new and interesting artists like Goose, Ralfe Band, Noisia,  Kidda and new signings Mirrors whilst maintaining their solid foothold in the clubs with artists such as X-Press 2, Dave Clarke, Tomas Anderson and Tim Deluxe.

To mark the anniversary Skint have released 3cd 45 track compilation that “reflects the musical variation and pioneering spirit of the label”.  As well as familiar big tunes it also includes the new Fatboy Slim v Herve club hit and undiscovered gems from the vaults.
