Bugged out 16th Birthday

It’s fair to say that if a club night reaches 10 its old in promotion terms, well if thats the case then this weekend it’s time to pick up your bus pass, as UK favourite Bugged out turns a mighty 16!

Way back in Manchester in November 1994, they threw their first party at Sankey Soaps, which featured LFO, and since then the heavyweight brand have hosted everyone from Daft Punk, Green Velvet, The Chemical Brothers, Miss Kittin, Ellen Allien, Tiga to Vitalic. Alongside this is the record label and their acclaimed compilation series which has included mixes from Erol Alkan, Damian Lazarus, Miss Kittin, Simian Mobile Disco and Boys Noize. Bugged Out now host parties around the world including events in London, Manchester, Milan, Rome and Barcelona.

Originally spawned from the ‘Jockey Slut Magazine’ by Johnno Burgess and Paul Benney (leading to the subsequent ‘Slut Trax’ imprint) the night reigned supreme at Sankeys till is shut its doors in 1998 when they then picked up the mantel at Liverpools Nation. They’ve since hosted parties across the UK, including regular stints at fabric and their legendary residency at The End.

They celebrate the 16th birthday on Saturday at a new London home, XOYO, with Bugged Out favourite Erol Alkan (who first played for them back in 2000) headlining, his first show with them since the Planet Turbo party in May. “Erol’s had a busy year mining the coalface of rave (disco, psych, techno…) with his releases with Boys Noize and remixes for Chilly Gonzales and Conan Moccasin. After recently concluding a summer of festivals it’s going to be good to have him back in the relative intimacy of a club. Regular Buggers Matt Walsh and Stopmakingme will be joining Erol and in room 2 neo garage act Hot City will be playing live alongside Tayo and Raf Daddy of 2 Bears.” That sounds like a pretty good birthday party to us.

XOYO, 32-37 Cowper Street, London. 9pm-3am. Adv £13, £13 on the door. Buy your advance tickets here <http://buggedout.sandbag.uk.com/Store/DII-322-4-bugged+out%21+birthday+23rd+oct.html>

Also we’d highly recommend a read of the highly entertaining history pages of their site…
